755 miles from NC up to the Thousand Islands area. Will be doing some maintenance on the family truckster before we go. We typically cover about 2000-2200 miles in the little over a week vacation between the round trip plus crisscrossing NY state for some visits. I’m stoked I need some time away from work 60-80 hour weeks are crushing me.

In looking at your map I would guess at least part of that is on 81, so make sure you check construction status and closures, especially around the 64 interchange. I say this as I have given up on 81-77 to points beyond when driving from Metro DC to Charlotte as its always a mess.

I’ve found 29 from Greensboro on up to be a much less stressful drive and its about the same time back to Metro DC and you can always jump off at any number of places to avoid DC and Baltimore.

Basically doing 29 to 64 to 81. This time a year pretty hard to skip construction but I’ll do anything over going the more traditional I95 I cant take the DC mess.

I highly reccomend moving your route a bit West and finding a way to drive through the national forests of both WV and PA- they’re the green spoltches on the map.

Find some time and an excuse to drive down a service road - the scenery is breathtaking.
