I feel like the license plate could have been better implemented, but overall, best looking sedan on the market hands down. No contest.

Well yes but I can’t ignore the styling. It’s just so good.

And Cadilacs aren’t bland.

But I see what you mean. I drove the smaller sedan, I think the S60, pretty bland, but a nice car, boring but in a nice way, best way to be comfortable and safe without being ostentatious. Same thing with the XC60.

The new XC90 though, that thing moves faster than any 7 passenger has the right to. and It’s devine on the inside.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love the 90 series triplets, they all look fantastic and the materials quality inside blew me away. I love my C70 but if I ever can afford to I’ll be stepping up to one of these.

Stodgy (there is no argument you can make here), essentially high trim Chevrolet’s, and don’t tell me people don’t loose their mind over the CTSv.

Kinja'd!!! Your boy, BJR > Slant6
07/28/2016 at 13:40

Kinja'd!!!0

How is a car of gangsters and celebrities everywhere “stodgy”? The SRX has fins. Fins. On a midsize crossover. In 2016. That's not boring! And if you're gonna call them high trim level chevrolets (even though only 2 currently share platforms with Chevy. Volvos are cars that are known for being safe and being driven by soccer moms and professors. Not exactly a glamorous reputation.

The rear doesn’t work. I don’t know why, but it looks bad to me. The rest looks great.

Kinja'd!!! Slant6 > Your boy, BJR
07/28/2016 at 14:01

Kinja'd!!!1

How about the brand of the AARP, early bird specials, and reverse mortgages. It’s probably tied with Buick for most stodgy car brand.

Ha! I can’t believe that you’re trying to use the fins to help your argument. Sure, they’re not boring, but they’re there so the above mentioned stodgy population can remissness in the “good old days”.

I’d also argue there are more soccer moms in Cadillac’s than in Volvos. Professors are Volvo’s target market, along with architects, and professionals that want a comfortable luxury car without being an ostentatious oaf with chrome on every trim piece. In other words people with class.

Although I don’t expect you to understand this. No this isn’t a jab at your intelligence, we just have different styles. You’re more of a postmodernist, you like ornamentation and rather than “less is more”, you think “less is bore”. I’m more of a modernist, and I think the exact opposite.

There is something fundamental about the two of us where we disagree on what an intermediate level luxury car should be. Yes Cadillac and Volvo are both intermediate luxury. A cut bellow the Germans and their higher subsidiaries, and a cut above Acura, Infinity and the like.

All this being said in the past 6 years both Volvo and Cadillac have made tremendous strides forward.

Kinja'd!!!0

Cadillac is the standard of the world, on par with Mercedes, Audi, or BMW (even better than in many cases) Volvo isn’t a “luxury” brand, they’re a “safety” brand. Which is boring. All new cadillac's have a special compartment hidden behind the AC controls which is perfect size for my glock. That's not boring.

Laughed my ass of at that as well. Unlike Cadillac, Volvo doesn’t actually try to be more than it is. That’s why it’s ‘For Life’ instead of ‘Dare Greatly’. All Volvos are just cars that happen to be safe, comfortable, and reliable dailies that just convey little more than sophisticated normalness.

Kinja'd!!! Amoore100 > Your boy, BJR
08/03/2016 at 22:14

Damn you’re one stodgy individual. I can’t tell if you’re trolling or if you really want people to hate you, but as I always say, every brand has its own share of pluses and minuses. I appreciate Volvo for what it is, and I appreciate Cadillac for what it is. There’s no need to shit all over each others’ opinions and if this is how you think it should be, then I have to say you’re no better at leading Oppo than Trump would be leading our nation. This isn’t a matter of loyalty either; if you said the same of Toyota, I’d be inclined to defend them. This is a matter of principle and it’s ok to admit that a.) you can be wrong sometimes and b.) people might actually like different things than you do.

Now that that’s out of the way, Volvo and Cadillac are basically the same nowadays in terms of brand equity and ownership, only that Cadillac happens to be a star that’s fallen from grace and Volvo is a performer rising through the ranks. Both have downsized their powerplants, offer several oversized SUVs for modern idiots and old people to buy, and have a unique, solidly American/Scandinavian style. Volvo leads the pack in technology and safety, whereas Cadillac wins in comfort and heritage. There are civil ways to settle disputes, and taking Volvo and Cadillac for what they truly are is the way to see the forest for the trees.

Except they’re the cars of emperors and presidents, celebrities and gangsters. They made a corvette ZR1 powered station wagon because fuck you they’re Cadillac. They built a motorama show car in the ‘50s and sold it to the public as a rolls Royce competitor because fuck you they’re Cadillac. They had a 3,000+ mile assembly line that involved custom built 747s because fuck you they’re Cadillac. They saw what ford did with the Navigator, did it lazier, then BEAT the Navigator because fuck you they’re Cadillac.

Volvo makes bland safe cars that are owned by the guy who invented unfinished furniture.

Volvo has saved millions of lives. Some of the people you talk about in Caddies might not have even existed if it weren’t for Volvo’s safety features that they pioneered and gave to everyone . They built a coupe in the ‘60s that has three million miles today with the original redblock four at its heart. They turbocharged the family wagon in the ‘80s to prove that space and speed aren’t a dichotomy, then they raced them in the ‘90s to prove it. They’ve had cars designed by reputed Italian houses Bertone and Pininfarina which were many times better than the unreliable and tragically slow Allante. Volvo’s Lambda Sond catalytic converter has reduced pollution worldwide and therefore prolonged the life of the gasoline automobile.

Cadillac made it big in the ‘60s and then decided that it didn’t need to be anything more than a giant couch for octogenarian grandmothers to shuttle around Florida in.

Also, Gabrielsson and Larson founded Volvo, not Kamprad you uneducated idiot. If you’re gonna toss accusations, at least make them correct ones.
