Not the furthest west you can go, but it’s pretty damn west.
Nothing else that way until you hit Northern Japan
I really love the Tofino area, especially the Pacific Rim Park Reserve
Also some vehicular content

I have always wished the US pushed for more land in the 1818 Oregon Treaty. British Columbia is outstanding.

I have to say I’m glad they didn’t, I love having all of this in Canada. I haven’t got bored of this province yet, there’s so much to see

We were there in the Subie in June, stayed at oceanvillage and ate Wildside fish tacos for a week... Already planning our return.

So I guess that makes us in San Diego the east coast of the west coast?

and with a boat you could spend a lifetime exploring and never leave here!

That looks really cool, I may have to consider that instead of camping at some point.....I highly recommend Tacofino, they’re a food truck that got so popular in Tofino and Vancouver that they have two permanent locations now. Their fish burritos are amazing.

I was thinking more of how Vancouver thinks of itself as the west coast, but there’s a massive island between it and the actual west coast, but that works too

A couple of years ago I drove as about as far West on Kauai as one can on public roads. Just beyond this picture was a locked gate for the Pacific Missile Range Facility. Slightly pictured was the 2015/2014 Chevy Malibu rental car.

Make sure to get you some Tacofinos while you are out there!

We did Tacofino too, locals recommended Wildside instead (they are ~25ft apart) and we weren’t dissapointed.
We walked both rainforest trails, visited the botanical garden, plus the lighthouse and aquarium in Ucluelet.. then a few days on Mackenzie, Chesterman, and Longbeach..
Definitely Subaru country..

Oh well I’ll have to try those as well. We were only there for a night, wandered the beaches, checked out Radar Hill, were gonna attempt the Canso plane crash hike but it turns out we’d need more serious footwear and clothes that can get muddy, so next time. The lighthouse and aquarium look cool, we just stopped by and saw this
I was disappointed we couldn’t go on and look around. Subaru country indeed, I love highway 4 and all the little dirt roads that lead usually interesting places. Such a good place to just go around with no real destination in mind. Oh yeah, Cathedral grove is impressive too. 800 or so year old Douglas Firs

I had the fish burrito each time I’ve been out there, I love it

We drove over from the interior and came down through the last stretch in a huge downpour -the road was fogged in, spooky, and dark - with so many turns..
The morning we left my son lost his cookies about 20km into the twisties..
I’ve heard the plane crash trail was tougher, while we were there the wolf warning was on, so it was just quick popular hikes for our little family.

When I was in the Navy a friend of mine from San Diego told me that Washington, where I’m from, is not really the West Coast. I was kind of surprised since if you go west from Washington you’re going to get very, very wet.

Oh that sounds less than pleasant, it’s a lot of fun when the weather is good. I can imagine it making someone motion sick, though. Yeah it’s over an hour each way and involves mucking through a bog. Probably better for earlier in the spring when the mud isn’t as bad and wolves are less of a concern
