I think the Cascada looks fantastic.

I mistook it for a crosscab Murano the first time I saw one in the distance.
I don’t see any reason to hate it though. It’s a cruising convertible that’ll be entirely better than the Sebring.
For some reason not everyone wants a Miata.

Miatas can’t seat 4, unfortunately.
I dig the Cascada, too. I am disappointed in its MPG from such a tiny engine/transmission setup.

I think it looks like a Solara.

Have you seen one IRL, though? Their proportions are...weird. The hood is very long and the cab looks squished. I think they should have made the windshield a few degrees more upright.

Not with that attitude.

The problem is that it is huge. It weighs nearly 4000lbs, which is going to put a damper on any fuel economy.

That’s because it’s based off the last Astra which was so heavy some versions were upwards of 3500lbs without AWD

I agree, my only gripe would be the belt line is really high for such a small car. It's become the official vehicle for Myrtle Beach retirees who can't afford/don't want a Corvette.

But what doesn't weigh 4,000# anymore? Especially with 4 seats and a convertible top. I'm not justifying it, just saying.

It's very...Eos. And it will sell at least twice as many. So like, 6.

This just screams “Ford Mustang Convertible or Similar*”.

Well, within GM, the Camaro convertible is around 400lbs lighter. Mustang is lighter too. 2-series is smaller, though the 4-series is similar.

True, but think about the engineering and marketing behind making the Camaro lighter — it pays dividends. With the Buick, nobody will really care (nor would it be worth the cost, most likely).

Holy crap, how’d it get that fat?!

It’s either like a baby or a cat. It got happy, now it’s fat.
To be fair, 4-seat non-sport convertibles have been toeing 2-tons for a while now. Audi started it. The A4/5 convertibles are serious chunkamonks.

I don’t hate them. There are plenty of states (MI for example) where a FWD car is needed and much golf is played in the summer where a foursome-sized convertible with adequate trunking makes plenty of sense.

I just went on wiki bender because info. An Insignia is 200-700lbs lighter and the Astra wagon is 3700lbs. Which is the base weight for the Cascada. Seems like they had to do a lot of extra bracing to make it not floppy.

Sure. Convertibles are terrible like that.

That why convertibles built ground up as convertibles are best convertibles.

Sure but even then, if they had been a coupe to start they would likely be lighter as a coupe. It’s rare to have a penalty free convertible, and when they do happen, words like “noodle-like,” “shudder” and “shimy” are used to describe their road-going feel.

The only one I can think of is the 12C becasue they made the coupe first. But as some one who wants a convertible and is only considering ground up ones as an option(C6, S2K, Elise, Miata), I’ve already formed my opinion.

I DO TOO. It’s just a shame it’s so heavy and underpowered.

We have one at work. It looks so much better in person than in photos.

It’s a Vauxhall Astra being sold as a personal luxury car, so to me it’s just deceitful and stupid. It’s probably not a bad car, I just don’t understand what it’s trying to be.
