Why is it that if I want a not ugly stereo i have to shop in the yacht catergory? And why is it that that huge corporations making stereos for cars cannot make one that looks nice and thought out and have a display with more than one color?
This is designed for boats and those side by side things. WHy on earth you need a stereo in a side by side i dont know.
kinda exspesive at $300 but look at how nice and simple it is. And it fits in a 3" circle.

I didn’t look for a car stereo for maybe 15 years, but I got the Mercedes 300D and the radio was junk, not the original. So I looked and it was really hard to find anything that wasn’t from Star Trek or just hideous. I finally found a Kenwood that was a black rectangle and blacked out when off, plus the face detaches. I didn’t want to put anything too crazy in a car that debuted in the 70's.

having worked for a couple of them, I can say that part of the problem is that so many of them are Japanese companies. And Japanese software/UI development has never been very good at coming up with decent user interfaces. aftermarket car audio has been about flashy graphics and information density for far too long. I have a Pioneer unit in my truck which looks like this:
at least a third of that shit doesn’t need to be on the screen. Like the right-hand edge; why do I need to know what EQ is active? I tune it once and it’s done! Why is the icon for “settings” so goddamn big? Why not move it down to the real buttons, instead of having the model number uselessly taking up space?
and the sad thing is, this is one of the better ones.

Could be worse. It could be this stupid Silver-Grey color.

Honestly that color would work really REALLY well in some interiors.

yes those touch screens are nice. I would rather have a gloss screen that has good pixel density that is half that size and with physical buttons big ones.

probably the best I’ve found...but I don’t think there are color display options.

Blue and Whorehouse Red? Sure. It looks really good when the color wears off on the touch surfaces.
I’ve hated that color on TVs, monitors and radios forever so i may be a bit biased here.

Sadly it’s discontinued. I am looking for something just like it.

The one in my E55 is a very plain looking pioneer single din unit in basic black. And the buttons as well as the display can be set to pretty much any color and varying brightness. It was in there when I bought the car. I’ll get pictures and the model number off of it later if you want.

I agree I like those. I just by matter of principle buy a brand new radio with bluetooth that has graphics like a 1980's casio watch.

I was going to put one in my Mercedes, but they only had the one color option so I got an ugly Kenwood. I agree about the graphics, and honestly most of them have shitty display graphics. They do still make that DD touch screen one which is fairly priced at $250 I think.

Drove a boat a few weeks ago with one of these in it. It was nice. That is all.
