Let’s face it: If you want your Boostang to sound like a V8, you’re gonna have a bad time. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good sounding 4-cylinder, right? So, let’s look at this small selection of Boostang exhausts, and see what Oppo likes and dislikes!

Too lazy to watch the videos, but whichever helps drown out the sounds of the crowd on the side walk

Out of those, the Flowmasters sound best to me. But Flowmasters drone like a mother.

The Focus RS.

The two best I’ve heard in person (YouTube exhaust videos never sound good) are the Cobb axleback and just a straight muffler delete (kept stock diameter piping and stock resonator IIRC).

Hmm still prefer Stock.. no joke one of them started to sound like a Lambretta my neighbour used to try to startup early in the morning next to my window..

Each one sounds like somebody’s “Motor-Boating”.

I don’t know what a Lambretta is.

If you wanted it to sound like a V8, you should have just bought the V8.

Every modded boostang I’ve heard sounds as farty as any other turbo 4-banger. If I were to get one (which I wouldn’t) I would get the quietest possible exhaust that still relieves backpressure.

I tell that to everyone :p

Finding a quiet exhaust that relieves backpressure sounds impossible. Even if you maintain the stock diameter piping, it’s still gonna get louder.

Most of the time on turbocharged engines, you only need to upgrade the downpipes to reduce backpressure. There will be an increase in noise, but it won’t be as obnoxious.

I never got a turboback for my Golf R because they all sounded terrible except for one, and it had a very short production run. But just a downpipe gave the only signficant performance gains with a slight noise increase. I’d be curious to see such comparisons for the Boostang.

How’s this? Stock exhaust/catless downpipe (I’d go catted honestly)

Or muffler delete

They all sound pretty farty. Maybe just stick an Abarth exhaust on it ; )

Hell no, I don’t want a full $1k+ exhaust. Just a simple axle-back or cat-back for me. :p

It’s exactly what it says...you go to a muffler shop and they cut off the muffler and weld in a pipe instead. On turbo cars it’s not obnoxious like straight pipes on a NA since the turbo itself already muffled the sound a little. If you leave the resonator in it’ll mitigate some of the droning (will still drone greater than stock). It’s the the setup that the 500 Abarth comes with stock.

Bonus, you get some popping on overrun.

I mean I know what a muffler delete is and how it works. I was just wondering how it sounded on the car in person. Does it really sound like a 500 Abarth?

I voted flowmaster but really you need to take it to a shop and get a custom built one. Sounds way better and gains power.

Delete the resonators and cats and get a good set of mufflers

Haha got it. I wouldn’t say it sounds exactly like an Abarth. It’s raspier and burblier than most mufflers, but it’s still a bit deeper than the Abarth.
