There’s one particular reason why I’ve never aspired to own a new supercar or hyper car. Aside from being made of “unobtanium”, the whole lot of’em. At least where I am, the majority of them (80-85%) are all driven by elderly people that look to be in their 60s and up. Never once have I thought, “I’d like to be that elderly gentleman in that 458/Huracan/ect.”.
No disrespect to any elderly supercar owners. Of course they can afford it and be awesome grandparents with sweet cars in one perspective.
I just like to think if I was to be inspired by anyone to own an expensive supercar one day, it would be someone my age or closer to my age. But that spectrum is quite sh*t too.
People will say “What about Vehicle Virgins or Shmee150?!?” They are young and fit your description, but.....
Then I say “Why the hell would I want to be some spoilt rich kid millionaire/billionaire daddies boy?!?”. And having met Vehicle Virgins in person a couple weeks ago when he was showing off his new Huracan that replaced his wrecked Gallardo, I can assure you there’s nothing inspiring or impressive about the guy. Comes off as pretentious, and if you’re not in the same level as him (young with much money and expensive cars), you don’t really belong there. I didn’t feel like I belonged with him and his group in the hour I spent around him. If anything, it made me feel like a lesser human being (which I’m NOT BTW) because I’d nothing like the cars they had. But I do have two awesome classic P-Cars and a Mustang on the way so it’s by no means all bad. I also learned that night that success is not defined by wealth or objects 100%.
I guess what I’m saying, is if you want to one day own one of those poster cars, I don’t think you’ll find any positive inspiration from the current generation of owners. Self inspiration is good inspiration. :p
I would one day like to own a 488 GTB, Cayman S, or DB10 one day...What inspiration have you lot for the cars you dream of? ^_^

You're considered a senior at 65.....I didn't write the rules.

In fairness, Shmee made his money by selling his business that he started after dropping out of school. Not exactly the silver spoon tale a lot of people here think.
Anyway. My tastes are fickle for the most part with the only real consistent being wanting a Range Rover. They’re just so nice.

Elderly to me is more like nursing home age, like 80s.

umm... the cars. My want or desire to won something, especially cars has zero to do with who else owns them. I find that consideration to be a silly reason to own, want or do anything. If I like it I’d like to have one!

Yeah, Vehicle Virgins is a trust fund child. I just find him and his videos annoying.

I think this might be a young man’s perspective of age. Thing is, you are always as old as you are. You aren’t young or old- you’re just you. So while you might look at a 70 year old in a 488 and think “I don’t really want to be that guy”, fact is you will (hopefully) be 70 one day. So when that day comes, you aren’t going to be an old guy in a supercar, you are going to be K-roll in a supercar. And K-roll is going to love it.

ARrg, why’d you have to remind me about Vehicle Virgins? That guy figuratively drives me up a wall. Every single detail about him enrages me. Youtube had finally stopped recommending his videos and now you had to go and mention him.
More to your point, yeah I agree. The hyper/super cars just don’t seem that much fun. I think the Cayman GT4 is about as expensive as my want goes. Not realistic, but I think I’d actually enjoy owning it.

Unfortunately, I live within an hour of him and see him quite often or his “people” on and around Woodward. And I share your sentiments. I still get his videos as recommendation.
Ya know what else is funny? He’s from one of the most, if not the most conservative state: CALIFORNIA

Fair enough, didn’t know that about him. I still find his videos annoying.
Range Rovers are nice as hell.

There’s no argument anyone can make against what you say. Not even him. He’s not a grounded person either.

I find the numerous UK car bloggers intolerable. The only upside is that they have ruined the summers of the only people I find even less tolerable. The Arab racers who fuck up my city every year. Now while they fuck up my city they are surrounded everywhere they go by a legion of teenagers with the cheapest DSLR from Amazon desperate to become the next Shmee.

I find them all intolerable from across the pond. London sounds like a real hell hole because of it. I’m sorry you’ve to put up with that rubbish. What’s it like seeing it in person, if you don’t mind my asking?

Tragic. My problem with car spotting in central London is that all the cars are modern exotics. The same exotics which have high production YouTube videos direct from the manufacturer. So why is blurry, shaky cam footage with jarring commentary so popular? It baffles me and it must be popular because it turns people into proper cunts. Running across traffic, barrelling past other pedestrians and blocking the pavement.
As someone who commutes by foot (even though London’s air quality says I really shouldn’t) it makes me want to lobotomise these twats when I’m blocked. Plus it’s always so sudden. Just a normal day with the upper classes begging foreigners for money and the middle classes laughing their arse off at them while the working classes blame the foreigners for everything when, bang, crack, pop. Expensive car comes flying by and before I can enjoy it myself, a tsunami of sweaty people busting a gut to get a shot, do some commentary and post it consume the very limited space of London’s 3000 year old road network.
Or in other words. It’s a load of bollocks that this is still going on. The police were supposed to be clamping down on this. On the bright side, I literally live in the opposite side of the city so I mostly miss it.

RIGHT!?!? Everyone’s seen the damn cars already in their overly-gaudy wrapps and crackling popping exhausts! What the hell makes new videos of the same crap any more special or different?!? If they were classic exotics, it would actually be pretty damn cool I think, but it just sounds plain stupid now. If only there was a Darwin-Hotline...
Has the air quality really not improved since the 50s?? What of the great smog of ‘52? It must be better than that. :p
If it’s any consolation, my mother use to live in Birmingham, so I at least like to think there’s a miniscule (.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%) ammount of English in me. But I also argue that since Ghana was originally an English Colony, I can do English things. :p

I lost a lot of interest in super or hyper cars when I realized it’s unlikely I’ll ever afford one. And if I do I’ll be too old to enjoy it safely.

It’s one of the great unjustices in the world. Loud, fast, powerful things are such a young person’s game. They’re what young people are into. They get it from motorbikes and badly modified Hondas...but really that’s just filling the supercar void.
They shouldn’t be an old person’s thing.
