Well, here it is: the 1987 Buick Grand National that I can afford.
And you know...it’s not as bad as it looks at first glance. The rear end and frame are intact, the car got sideswiped and the rear wheel got caught, broke a control arm. The mounts are okay, so new control arms would have that mess straightened out.
The door is junk (though it does apprently open and close), fender is toast, and that quarter panel...woof.
The other side looks pretty good, just kinda sad about its lot in life.
Things look okay under the hood, a bit rusty but all there.
Ah, but here’s where the car really becomes worth talking about. The interior is excellent. No wear on the seats, which very impressively don’t seem to have faded (that’s just bright sun light in the picture). The rust on the steering wheel makes me laugh for some reason.
So. What we have here, available for purchase by me, is what I’m calling the Rat National. It’ll be a driver with a set of control arms, a fuel pump, and tires. And I’d absolutely drive it like that while working on the body, because what do I care what the passenger side looks like? I’ll just park it so I never walk past that side.
Seriously though, this car needs a hug.

What’s he want for it?? That interior is pretty awesome. How hard are the panels to come by? I would imagine they use the same as the standard Regal for that, so junkyard could have those..
Keep us informed.

Is is a real grand national? Check for the code WE-2 on the tag on the underside of the trunk lid. Lots of replicas of these out there.

$4k. All the body panels are standard Regal bits, so it really wouldn't be a difficult fix. It's all straight aside from those panels. The interior really is excellent, the headliner fell down, but 1980s General Motors, so that's no surprise.

Yeah, it’s legit. It’s been sitting in this state for about 15 years, before GN’s became big business. Still, it's got the WE-2 tag, so we're good.

Nice. Pretty cheap way to have yourself a sweet classic to drive around. Grab a ‘Whitesnake’ cassette and you will be the coolest kid in town.
