So much nicer than the old Sony that was in there. Here’s what I did:
1: Remove the fucking everything.
2. Drill lots of holes then use a rubber mallet and a flat-headscrew driver to pop out this plastic at the back kof the ridiculously shallow radio mounting hole
This stupid shit.
3: Paint the dashboard. After the first coat, realized you bought “fabric and vinyl coating” instead of “fabric and vinyl dye” which gives you 100% the wrong finish and is nowhere near “durable”. It’s like shitty knockoff Plastidip that doesn’t peel off very well. Shit.
Seriously? I don’t even know what the hell I bumped it on!
4. Put shit back together
5. Fin.
Bonus picture of my parking space at work, on the right, and on the left is my desk. Shortest walk into the building EVER.
Also, that’s all three of my cars I’ve made progress on in the last week. Yay!

Thanks! It’ll look far better when I dye the dash with the same dye I used on the headliner. Duplicolor Vinyl Dye is amazing stuff. Dries almost instantly and actually penetrates into the material so it doesn’t scratch off.

Looks like the 2-din version of the unit that I got for the Mini.
I like the unit that I got (the amber color option matches the dash lighting perfectly) and sounds much better than any previous system I have had in a car. Now if only the bluetooth on my G4 wasn’t awful.

Are you going to refinish the radio/HVAC surround? The wood is especially out of place now IMO.
Looks really good. Sporty even :X

don’t sweat what the can says, at the end of the day it’s just spray paint. Some better than others, but there is no spray can “dye”. You’ll get better results via different prep methods than you will by buying something labeled as dye.
Urethane Supply Company made good plastic paint, but it appears they’ve changed their name and are now Polyvance. (ignore what I previously wrote, I quick looked the website and thought they were out of the paint game.

Seems sacrilegious since it is still a luxury car and that is real wood, so I will probably leave it.

I dunno. The dye certainly acts totally differently than any normal aerosol spray paint I’ve ever used. This stuff is just shitty plastidip, though.
