Prime Layout, 21 corners

Kinja'd!!!

1st Alternate Layout, 17 corners

Kinja'd!!!

2nd Alternate Layout, 18 corners

This time, it’s much more realistic (8 units in Paint equal to 16 meters), but even then I still need input on which one would best replace the current Korea International Circuit.

Here’s how the two alternate layouts compare to the prime layout:

Anyway, vote. Highest vote becomes the layout on which I’ll draw up special violet runoff zones.

It looks like there would be no overtaking in an aero car. Just like Korea.

Well that went useless. This was supposed to be something that I can shove to Tilke’s mouth. Turns out I’m no better.

Anyway, where exactly did I go wrong?

Sweepers before and during the straights (can’t get close) and no heavy braking zones. That’s why Tilke’s such a fan of hairpins at the beginning and end of straights. It gives the following car a chance to get close then overtake under braking. Artificial even without DRS, but it works.

Man this’ll be tricky to revise. I’ll need a second opinion. Rescheduling post...

I’d make T1 tighter, nix T4, straighten out 7 and 8, make 9 decreasing radius (possibly a double turn that’s really just one like T9 and 10 Bahrain), nix 19, and tighten 20 (possibly with chicane)

I think T7, T8, and T9 can stay that way, but T9 will have to be tighter to deepen the braking zone. Then bypass T11 with a dogleg-right so you arrive at T13 about as deep as T9.

OR

Go straight on past T9 but put a The Chase/Casio Triangle-style chicane assembled into T12.

I could be looking at the curve wrong, but I’m seeing 8 being hard for the following car and 9 being a fairly light braking point, but if 8 can be taken flat by both cars to allow the following car a chance to pull alongside it might not matter.

If it helps, T7 works like the big first bend at La Sarthe.

I like that one alot better. Looks like it will be better to drive, too especially with the braking zone into T9. Still think that there will be no overtaking on the main straight, which is what the people paying big money to be in the main grandstand will want to see. That long right final turn is going to make the following car have to back off.

That’s the thing, though. Those last three corners are the do-or-die ones. Either you commit or you concede. The bend between T18 and T19 is bent like that to really make the lines more or less varied and keep any two or three racers guessing.

Besides, most of Sector 3 is a concert field (the square bit surrounds the main concert field), so spectators wouldn’t really miss out.

Yes, yes, pre-race or post-race concerts with BIGBANG and 4Minute, I know, but a music festival that starts after Q3 and ends before Race Day a good way to rake in more sales and attract fans.

Do you really want the do-or-die ones immediately prior to what’s going to be a DRS zone, though? Afterwards maybe. Would be fun watching two try to go side-by-side there (or in Merc’s case, crash each other out there), but I’m not seeing a way for that to happen because the front will end up sliding for the car behind.

Anyway, here’s the current alt I made.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Placed a chicane at what used to be T19, softened the hairpin to allow some runoff at the triangle. Otherwise, I think I nailed it. I think.

Yep, that works. At that point since the final turn will be nearly flat, there won’t be as much of an aero penalty for the following car before the main straight, so the Paddock Club can continue to be sold out.

I can say I’ve done it, then.

Now to find Hermann Tilke and smother him with a print...

WAIT!!! Just out of curiosity, I might turn that chicane in a sort of Maggots-Becketts-Chapel set, not for any benefit, just to see what it might look like.
