Even if you don’t fill them up all the way they’re too fucking heavy to use safely and their spouts tend to wear out quickly. If you value being able to store a shitload of gas at one time over a 2.5 or smaller gas can (or feel the need to hoard gas in the first place) then you’re a fucking dumbass who values being a goddamn cheap-ass over goddamn fucking common sense, and you deserve to have your balls kicked in hard .

I really hate the new EPA nozzles. Every god damn time I use one gas spills out the collar and onto the pavement.

As with 5 gallon buckets, it’s easier to carry two than one.

People shouldn’t be storing more than 2.5 gallons of Lobbygas anyway, since it goes bad in as little as 2 weeks. Now real gas, that can be stored for months in the right can and there is no reason not to store it that way other than hassle. I use my 2 Gallon rotopax for lawnmower/boat/whatever gas and my 4.5 gallon ones for extended touring range. In either case you get what you pay for as the Rotopax had great nozzles...even their CARB nozzle doesn’t suck.

Hahahaha, I was coming here for DYEL. My buddy works at a water charity that does fundraiser WODs with 5-gallon water jugs, which is even worse. And rail-thin, malnourished women and children in third world countries tote those things 10+ miles every day. #firstworldproblems

Plastic jugs are not gas cans, and should be used for coolant and mayonnaise only.

Kinja'd!!!

Get a metal can and skip the ‘no spill’ (always spills) slide spout.

I have this kind and really like it. There’s a handle on the back side which helps a ton in lifting and handling, and that style of no spill spout is one of the better ones IMO.

I love how they do not vent so when you take them from the hot garage and go to fill up your lawn mower you have to burp them and gas spittle goes everywhere.

My car has a capless gas tank that requires a gas can to have a special disposable nozzle fitted over it in order for it to work.

There’s one nozzle in my trunk, snuggled in with the spare. I haven’t had to use it yet (knock on wood), and hopefully I don’t lose it. The owner’s manual says that if I do, I should be able to buy a replacement at almost any gas station.

I’ve had my car three years. Never seen a gas station that sells them.

My dad stores lots at his hunt camp. Come winter it is no fun hauling in gas. His old snowmobiles (early 90's long track Jags) run on anything.

Yeah, a little stabilizer and some rust free cans and you can leave it for a year or more no probalo.

Capless tank seems neat from a convenience perspective, but the disposable nozzle seems like a waste.

Avoid the metal ones, especially if filling lawn mowers with the tank right next to the battery. I burned my parents’ garage down like that. Our next gas can was plastic and my eyebrows grew back, so it’s all good.

I agree. It’s annoying how slow it pours because it doesn’t vent well, but it stops when you want it to without any mess.

When Hurricane Gustav came calling, we ran north to Arkansas and visited friends. We also bought four 5-gallon gas cans and filled them to the top. On the return trip, we stopped at every operating gas station to top off the cars. The last operating gas station was a couple of hours north of Baton Rouge.

When we got home, we were one of the few houses that had an operating generator because we were one of the few houses that had fuel for said generator. :)

I usually fill up one can at the beginning of each summer and use it all summer for the lawn equipment. The others sit in storage, awaiting the next hurricane.

I have a 5 gal jerry can in my truck. A little sta-bil keeps it good for a long time. Anything smaller wouldn’t get me very far. (12mpg)

Spilling gas everywhere seems to defeat the purpose of reducing vapor or whatever.

My lawnmower holds five gallons of gas and my tractor holds about ten gallons. There’s no fucking way in hell that I’m going to cart a half dozen of your little toy cans around every time I go to the gas station.

Maybe this design would work better? The hose rubber hardens over time but they’re probably pretty easy to replace.

Where I live it would take almost 5 gallons just to make it to the nearest gas station open after 10pm, and that’s travelling south. Going north, there’s nothing open after 8pm, 5pm in some spots, and there are stretches where it would take me over 10 gallons between gas stations, and in the winter it could be a couple days at -40 before someone else even drives past. My Lada only has an 11 gallon tank, and I’d much prefer only one potentially venting gas can inside the vehicle with me over having several.

Was gonna be sarcastic, like do you even lift or something, but dude your parents are fucking hoarders. Shit’s crazy. Definitely not recommended if you value not exploding from gasoline vapors (because remember, liquid gas doesn’t burn for shit. Gas vapors explode)
