Wait, that looks quite good for a van, doesn’t it?

Since some supplier of us made a wrong delivery to a customer, and the warehouse staff had already gone home, I had to do a delivery of tiles, and take the old ones in return.

That’s quite a heavy lot, luckily none broke. Also the customer dailies an Audi S5, and has a Maserati Mexico old race bike, which he showed me around, that was cool.

The Citroën Berlingo, isn’t such a bad place to be, it has more equipment than my Twingo. Though the key split upon starting, which meant I had to re-assemble it without tools.*grumble*

Back at it’s base, check that tile induced stance, yo!

It’s huge compared to my Twingo, though! And the blindspots are quite big, if you are used to having windows all around. But other than that it kinda rules!

Yeah, compared to a Twingo, it’s a monster. Compared to my truck, it’s a go-cart :)

Solid sides do make for gianormous bling spots. At least that one had rear windows.

I spent a number of years as a delivery driver. Best job I ever had.

I quite liked it, wouldn’t mind doing it more often, though I’m mostly an in an administrative function, as a holiday/weekend worker, so I doubt they’ll let me drive a lot. My bosses tend to let me do every task that is left over, which is sometimes more fun, and sometimes a bit boring, but it does give a quite broad experience.

I did some time in those trenches as well - courier work (a RWD Ford Ranger is not the best vehicle for Maine winters) as well as 14' and 22' box trucks. I got sick of being expected to cover too much territory all day every day and switched to warehouse work at a flooring store, where I still made very occasional deliveries.

I was a delivery driver once. It bred lots of horrible, super-aggressive driving habits, which I didn’t realise until I rear-ended a little old lady because I misinterpreted her creeping forward when a light changed... turned out there was someone in front of her that I didn’t notice who did not react quite as quickly to the light changing.

But there were no injuries or insurance claims (or damage), so it’s in the past. Just a solid reminder that I’m not invincible, nor is anyone else on the road. But I still don’t have the patience for dense urban traffic.

I just loved being on the road, out in the air. I worked as the runner for an advertising company, so there was rarely much heavy lifting. We had a Chevy van with a straight 6 that was a blast to drive, even if the radio and AC didn’t work. And advertising people are a lot of fun, well, the artists are, the account execs were kind of uptight. But it was a lot of fun.
