Security measures are usually very strict on national holidays, at least that’s what is expected.

Absolutely horrifying news. Sadly, save for setting up reinforced checkpoints, there’s not much that’s capable of stopping a truck at full speed.

Sadly not. Idk if it’s true but the fuck driving the truck allegedly got beat up by the crowd but it’s confirmed he’s dead.

I don’t know if it’s poor policing or daesh really hate France more than any other western European country, but in times like this we need to be there for our friends.
I’m sure we can expect a heavy french retaliation.

They would. It makes sense if you’re looking for a crowd to drive into. It also has symbolic importance.

Damn. I’d think it’s more probable that a shootout with the police occurred, but we’ll know for sure soon enough.

Not a lot you can do against a rampaging truck. Hollande declared war on IS after Paris (which is exactly what they wanted), and it seems like they intend to bring that war to our shores...

I don’t think Daesh has anything against France per se, it’s just that it’s an easy target. Belgium even more so.

Probably young dumb fools with little to no future prospect living in parallel societies. Weird thing is that I actually talked with my friend while driving through France last summer and I told him that I had the feeling that the first major daesh thing would happen in France, which eventually did in November. I felt like shit the day the attack happened in Paris.

At first I thought of the symbolic character, I didn’t know that Nice was that crowded.

You’re right, I wasn’t thinking clearly, the truck tactic is similar to what the IRA perpetrated over here, though this truck didn’t blow up it did more damage.
I respect the French decision to take the fight to them.

I can imagine, I was at the British Grand Prix at the weekend and I was thinking, there is over 130,000 people in one place this would be an easy place to carry out an atrocity like that, people queuing to get in, or when everyone storms the track after the race. I was put slightly more at ease when I saw hundreds of police officers and also some armed officers too.

The police forces at our train stations started carrying their weapons in a way that people would really see them. They still do.

one analyst commented that the Islamic communities in Belgium did not speak out about potential extremism as much as is done in Britain and as a result a lack of intel led the the airport attackers slipping through the net.
of course that’s someone else’s opinion, I can’t comment because I’m not an expert

That kind of shit is only appropriate in GTA IV.

at major stations and airports they carry G36Cs and I think they still have MP5s but you never seen them on the street. When I was in Barcelona in March, every few streets in the city centre would have a van parked up with heavily armed police patrolling.

I don't think it's easier, but Western European countries are fairly easy to reach and garner more attention.

Actually, I think the do have something. The French have a strong streak of loving a lot of the things they are against. Music, art, sexuality, freedom of thought.

You know what? Fuck terrorists.
They do their shit in the name of religion. Most of the bloodiest events in history are due to religion. I don’t care what deity you believe in, but if you think their teachings say to blow shit up so you can go to your heavenly kingdom, then you’re a fucking idiot.
Sorry, just sick to death of terrorism. Did these people ever think that the people they want to change never will? Just because some terrorist group blows up a market, or a church, or a school doesn’t mean I’ll wake up the next day and say, you know what, you’re right. I’m going to follow you from now on. It doesn’t work that way, and never will. Stop trying to bend people to your religion. It will never work. You know what happens if people don’t believe in your god? They don’t go to your heaven. The end.

It’s a shame they they need to, we have never routinely armed all police over here and I hope that we will never have to.
