I saw my friend getting out of a Jetta, and was like, “WTF he got a VW?!"

I detest the Jetta for no other reason then I have very strong negative memories associated with one. My 8ish month long depression started in one.

That thing where I grew up around VWs and liked VWs and didn’t care about any other cars.

Also went through a low point life and car ownership with a Jetta! I made it 10 months before I traded it.

Oh... I see... I don’t think I ever had this happening to me with any manufacturer. My family has owned all the generations of Golf and Polo and still solely buy VW and I grew REALLY sick of those lol. And since I have not grown around any other brand, I guess I never got a fanboyhood :)
Only time my parents owned something else other than a VW was an E30 320i when I was like 4 years old and they hated it because it was WAY slower than the GTI they were used to and they only kept it 7 or 8 months. (Fell into the pit that was left open while “helping my father” pushing the car back in the garage. That left really bad memories too lol)
I think it’s a good thing though. I’ve owned Mazdas, Ford, Chevrolet, Renaults, Volvos... 4cylinders, 5 cylinders, V6s, V8. It broadens your views and allow you to discover a lot more than what people who consistently stick to one and only brand get to experience :)

Fortunately, I didn’t own that vile thing, I belonged to a girl. Long story short, I fell for one of my coworkers, at the same time I had a bunch of shit going on.

Yeah but what if he got a Golf R? Would you still not really care about that one?

Ah that makes sense. I really can’t bash the Jetta too much, it was a good little car just the wrong one for me. I bought it to make a 90 mile round trip to a new job, and keep the miles off of the E46. 2 months in I was already looking for a new job, and by the time I found one 10 months later, I had clocked 18k miles and kicked in the passenger door. Bad dumb stupid.

My VW fanboyhood ended shortly after my GTI’s warranty. It just took a little while to admit it.
