Some of you know I’m currently unemployed and the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! hasn’t been going that well. Things finally seem to be getting better. I reached out to a friend from Tech who also worked at the same company as I did, albeit in a different segment in a different district, and who also got laid off. He said his new company is looking for a chemical engineer and they called me yesterday and want to interview me. Also, a fraternity brother reached out to me and offered to pass my resume on, and he said they’re probably also interested in interviewing me. So, some of you also know I’m in San Antonio Texas right now and have plans to make it back to GA. I’ve got my apartment until October, so I’m gonna pack up my things and have them ready to move once I find a job and have a place to live. Gonna take this:
and make this drive next week:

Most roadtrips don’t have potential payoffs. Looks like this one might. *offers Yellowjacket fistbump*

I wish you all the best, dude :) At least you didn’t have to leave a very well paying job because of stupid immigration, like me :)

I am trying hard to get outta Maryland and back to Florida, but I have a job in Maryland...albeit a terrible one.
The E90 is a comfy car to do a road trip in. My E92 was alot of fun going across the eastern seaboard.
Good luck!

Best of luck to you! Wave as you pass through Baton Rouge.
I’m going to assume you’ve never made the drive through Baton Rouge. It’s probably a bad assumption, but I’m going to leave some tips for you anyway.
Keep an eye on the LADOTD traveler traffic information system ( http://hb.511la.org/#roadReports?t… ) and be prepared to take the northern route (hwy 190) at Ramah or Grosse Tete if there is a backup at the Atchafalaya Basin bridge or Mississippi River bridge. If you sign up on their site, they will send you traffic alerts.
My in-laws have been stuck on I-10 several times and each lasted an hour or more.
The basin bridge is also a major speed trap, so watch your speed along there. Oh yeah, one final warning - watch your lane after going over the river. The right-most lane becomes an exit only to Washington Street and people in the left lane really don’t like to let people in.

I had a very nice paying job that I lost due to the collapse in oil prices, I saved money though so it’s really not that bad. I hated that job, I needed to get out, it just sucks this is the way it happened. I guess things could be worse, unemployment with a paid off M3 isn’t terrible.

This will be my 6th time making this drive, luckily I haven’t hit bad traffic in LA on any of my trips. I usually do about 8 over and haven’t had any problem with the cops, plus usually they leave their radar on, so the escort gives me ample amount of time to slow down.

What?! I’m in Oil & Gas too! Oil prices recently fucked me over as well. Sure I had to move out of America because of immigration, but I might’ve been axed even if I stayed.
Long story short, I transferred to Singapore within my company and just delayed my axing to just now. I have another job in Oil & Gas lined up, but I’m not very enthusiastic about it since the whole industry is in the dumps.
But yeah...let me know if you know any coyotes. And send tacos :)

Good to know! It’s my standard set of instructions for friends and family planning to come visit or pass through on their way to New Orleans.

I was a frac field engineer, we went from 15 crews in 2014 to I think 3 or 4 were pumping when I got cut. We had a Mexican FE get transferred to mexico cause it was a lot cheaper for them to have her there and severely cut her pay than to keep her here. After my experience with a service company, all I can say is fuck oil and gas.

Frack has certainly gotten the short straw from the now-completely-fucked fistful of straws.
I’m considering positions in other industries too. Its not easy. I’m looking at another couple of years of getting myself in a stable position.
I know that if I’m the new guy in another Oil & Gas company and things get worse, I’m the first guy out of the door. Its not very comforting.
Also no beef or pork since I’m in India (and an Indian citizen) and my family is vegetarian and doesn’t drink. At least I’m not paraplegic?!

It still is if you time it wrong. My in-laws live near Padre, so they always time it wrong. I adjust the time I leave so I miss the rush hours in Houston and Baton Rouge. If an accident messes up traffic and screws up my timing, I make a long stop for a meal so I can avoid the traffic. Yes, I hate it that much.
