I’ve become the “car advice guy” for all my mother’s work friends whenever someone is looking for another vehicle. It’s weird when you haven’t even seen the people to guess what they would like. Started off looking for a $30k vehicle, reliable, SUV, with 50,000-70,000 miles on it. Ended up getting a 2016 Toyota Highlander Limited w/ tech package and 1,600 miles for $38,000. It is so much more stressful finding cars for people that don’t know cars than playing “ What’s That Smell ” in a Mitsubishi 3000GT for the remainder of the year.

Generally, under most cases: Recommend Mazdas, hope for the best.

If they get really annoying recommend a used 7-Series and walk off. ;)

If somebody asks me for advice on cars and ends up in a Highlander I’d usually consider that a failure. Unless they’re this kid.

I’ve been doing this since I was 8 or so. And if you wanna be even better, suggest a NEW Highlander XLE.

I just say “I don’t know.” But then, no one ever ask me.

there is probably a big difference in how you can handle the person when they are ‘mom’s work friends’ or ‘paying customer. Sounds like you should make yourself a website. You tell your mom about it and she tells her friends and now your making a few bucks. A few more people sign up and your on a roll. You wake up one day to beautiful blue skies and head to your Touareg. With the whole diesel thing, the owner thought the car was going to kill them just because it was a diesel so they offered it to you cheap. Under your wiper you find a business card.

I get this question too often. Usually I suggest a Lexus or something.
