I waited just a bit too long on that U joint.

Oof! Thats ugly. There were no bearings left, just rust.

I know.. Shame on me. I knew it was bad back in January and kept pushing it off.

did it hurt the yolk?? i had one that i let go too long, and it put notches in the yolk........ those notches ate every single u-joint i put in it until i changed out the yolk.......i kept extra caps to catch it early. ate probably 8 or 9 u-joints......

check the yolk.

I swapped the flanged part of the yolk. I don’t even know why I had one but im happy I did. They dug in good.

Next week im changing the joints on the front shaft just as a precaution.

they make a distinctive squeak, right when they are about to spit the shaft onto the ground........

at least check them for play, might grease them. i try to buy the serviceable joints with the grease zerks.

Its been squeaking for 3 months. It would echo in the parking garage at work. The vibration when coasting downhill was flat out scary.

that vibration was THE worst. so long as there is a load on it, it does “okay”.

now you can turn the radio down some, seeing that you dont have to drown out the u-joints anymore.

Damn. That is bad-bad.

At least i didn’t drop the shaft and have to use 4 high to get home.

That would have been a nightmare because the front shaft is in my basement right now..

Sadly, i’m still half deaf. The radio stays at 41.

think the sound will return to your hearing??? i was surprised when mine did...... it would come back for moments at a time, and then back to ringing. these days it has gotten decent again. the ring just quit one day.

Hmm. Well this is what happens when someone with the power to make things right loses a huge gamble, and it costs them everything.

I hope the ringing will stop. It won’t. When i was young i blew out the inner and outer eardrum in my left ear. They healed but the scar tissue is too tough for normal hearing. It also freaks out every audiologist i visit.

yeah, some days the ringing makes it tough to focus......

helps to focus on everything ELSE in your surroundings........... details.

it kept me sharper than everyone else around me.

stay sharp. dont lose hope.

Ive become surprisingly good at reading lips. I’m only thrown off by my new boss. He’s from North Dakota and has a Minnesota like accent. His mouth doesn’t move the same way other people’s do when they speak. Hard to explain but I’ve been adapting.

yeah, after a while you get good at telling folks “if you got something to say.......speak up.”

helps to read what people are REALLY saying too.

No doubt. That’s why I don’t like “Walk and Talk” meetings. If i can’t see you talking I’m going to miss something. It’ll probably be important too.

Kind of surprised it made it through 2 trips to Milwaukee and back, 3 trips to Muscatine and back and 4.5 trips to Dubuque and back.

Even when I get a replacement I can’t get rid of this truck. It’s done too good for me.

Oh yeah. I want and need something newer. US Cellular ate up all of my shopping time today when my new phone went blank less then 24 hours after signing up. 2 hours Friday after work and 2.5 more today. By time I cleaned house, cut the grass and that ordeal the day was over. I even missed Prarie Home Companion live (that hasn’t happened in 10 years).

Sorry. Im rambling.

I go riding tomorrow and return to shopping on Monday.

It takes that kind of time to buy a new car. Even that shouldn’t take that kind of time.

When I bought my Sierra, the whole process went smoothly, until I got to the F&I guy. He wasn’t pushy, he was incompetent and impossibly slow. He didn’t know where anything was, and he even took a smoke break in the middle of it.

I got a call a couple days later saying they had forgotten a form, and I was going to have to come back and sign it, as well as pay a $5 fee to the credit union they had financed me through. I told them, “I’m not driving 40 miles each way because you screwed up, and I’m not paying another 50 cents or a stamp.”

They sent a porter to my house with a form and a $20 bill.

Holy Cripe! That’s awesome.

I can see a “bumbling” salesman. The F&I guy? Hell no.

When I was at Schaumburg Toyota and Roesch Chevy the F&I guy made a crap ton of money on the “aftermarket” junk I didn’t try to sell. Like undercoating, “clear” bras and “scotchguard”.

Heck. My commission checks were delayed because some of my paperwork was out of order. Often.

He was young, and I doubt he was an F&I guy much longer. I ratted him out to the manager, whom I had met when he was a salesman a couple years before that, and we remembered each other. He said they’d been having trouble with the guy, that he’d been transferred there from another store. He was pretty pissed about the smoke break part.

The F&I guy at Pugi Mazda, when we bought my wife’s CX-5, tried to sell us $7200 worth of “protection.” “If you break a wheel blah blah blah, if you loose your keys up to twice a blah blah blah, if you tear your leather blah blah blah.” My wife’s ‘06 3 looked brand freaking new when we traded it in. Luckily he wasn’t too pushy either, I’d go back to Pugi in a heartbeat.

Is Roesch as scummy as my impressions are of that chain? They’re by far the closest Ford dealer to me.
