RIP. I hate hastily built houses that are all the same because they’re always crap. I live in one now with crap build quality. My dad bought one with crap build quality (that also wasn’t built up to code). Just a way for a company to make a quick buck.

And while we’re on the topic, a little ditty called “Little Boxes” as performed by Rise Against (yeah, only the lyric videos had high quality, lame).

The land behind my house used to belong to a cemetery. It wasn’t ever used, though, so it was just woods. Wonderful, beautiful woods. Unfortunately the cemetery sold it to a developer who promptly bulldozed the woods. They also took out the house next to us to put in a through road. Originally the lots were supposed to be a minimum of half an acre but the developer greased some palms and now they are less than half of that. There still isn’t a house directly behind us but it’s only a matter of time. They keep getting closer, and closer.

Yep. Unless you actually own the wonderful woodsy barrier in a fast-developing area, like a 30-mile radius of Seattle, you are not safe.

Actually... there’s an old cemetery (my old stamping grounds — woods, frogs, berries, the works) by the house I grew up in... Last time I drove by, there was a notice of development sign in the entry...

There is a ridge line in that property that overlooks the Spokane River and naturally the view lots were the first ones built on because they could charge more for them. Since then they have worked their way from the ridge line toward us with the lots abutting the existing houses not sold yet. Nobody wants to live by us poors, evidently. Or more correctly, nobody wants to build a spec house on a lot by us poors.

It's always baffling to me that there is a never ending supply of people who will and can pay 7 figures for a home.
