Seriously oppo, help me identify these berry producing plants. They are safe to eat, I just have no idea what they are called. As I reclaim my yard from the previous owners neglect, I keep finding these berry producing plants. So far we have 3 plants with thorns, and about 8 trees, all producing berries.
First up is the tree kind.
The berries turn black. I heard they might be mulberries but I have no idea.
The leaf of the tree berry.
The light brown trunk is the berry tree.
Ok, tree number 2.
the leaves look similar but still different. Not sure what to make of that.
The berries on the thorn plant. I heard they might be wild blackberries.
The leaf of the thorn berries.
Such a waste...
So dies anyone recognize the berries? Thanks in advance.

I believe what you have there is a mulberry bush.

Tree is a mulberry.
Thorny one looks like a blackberry as well. Most cultivated blackberries are modified to not have thorns so they're likely wild.

I’d recommend he look for a monkey chasing a weasel, just to be sure.

For the tree? Shouldn't it be a bush?

The thorn plant is a blackberry bush. Surprised to see ripe berries available to pick. I had a house with a couple bushes, and a blueberry bush. The birds would beat me to them every damn time. I’d be 2 days from perfectly ripe to pick, and they would clean them out.

That is a Morus (Mulberry Tree). The berries are indeed good to eat.
The bush however looks to be either Blackberries or Loganberries. Those are both delicious (if not prickly to gather)
I work at a wholesale plant nursery as the shipping manager so ask me why I know all of this.

Yeah....I think i killed one by mistake, thinker it was a picker plant. I'll have to be more careful. Eh, I found two more after I killed it, so it evened out, lol.

Eh, they tend towards bushes unless you train them to go higher. We had wild ones in my street growing up and they got to be about 20-25ft high

Surprisingly, only two trees have been ransacked. But the others are partially hidden in the brush. I discovered two more blackberry bushes today, and another tree.

We got two mulberry trees like that. I figured they went up for sunlight and rainwater.

I clicked on this post hoping they might be a little more obscure or regional, thinking I would have a leg up after working in garden centers for 10 years. Now, at least I know I would still have been late to the party.

Yea the thorned ones look like Blackberries. Probably not wild ones though as the thorns look fairly small. Keep those in check. If you don’t they may grow out of control like a weed. At least the wild ones do in Oregon, and their thorns can get vicious, like half an inch vicious.
What you see in the picture are my neighbors Blackberry bushes growing into my yard... yup, they are now higher than their house.

Not 100% on the specifics of how they train them, but that could very well be how.

Growing up around the corner from our apartment building, there was a bunch of those bushes/trees behind a parking lot and my friends and I would climb onto the back of an abandoned RX-7 to gather the berries and eat them.

To a lot of people they're weeds and work very hard to get rid of them. It'll likely come back. It's not as stubborn as privet but it does take work to kill

The bush looks like raspberries to me. We have a bunch of them in our yard too. They're delicious. No idea on the trees though.

No! Hell no! Screw the berries. I’d rather starve. I’ve bled actual gallons trying to fight those things back over the years. I hate them with a passion.
(not my picture, but this is what the thorns on the wild ones look like.. maybe a bit bigger on the thicker ones.)
And I don’t really want to go to the city either, because you’re not supposed to park broken cars in your driveway for longer than a month or something either.. so if they come to the area looking for stuff to fine, they may see my project car sitting there...

Weeds. Dirty, nasty, pokey weeds.
Though the ones in the image look domestic, as they don’t have huge thorns.

I usually take some shears and trim them back. Then use the shears to pick them up to dump in the burn pile.

Yea I can’t burn anything in the city. Everything I trim now goes back over the fence. I have my own yard debris that goes in my yard debris bin. And there’s no escaping the thorns. They WILL poke, there WILL be blood, and I will get pissed in the process. That’s inevitable. My wife knows to stay away from me when I trim those until my anger has subsided.

mulberry tree and blackberry bush. Blackberry bushes vary in that some come with thorns. others come thornless. Also size of the berry varies.
Both are edible and delicious. Mulberry is ripe when berries are black. Otherwise they are a bit tart.
Blackberry is a little tricky. Even when they turn black, they might still be a bit tart. You really have to find the sweet spot for their ripeness. If you wait too long, they fall off and you don’t get to eat it.
Normally just picking the ripe ones and eating them is good. Some would recommend washing them, but I feel like water washes away some of the sweet taste

The first ones are mullberries. We used to eat them all the time as kids. Delicious.

That seems to be the general consensus here. I actually found a Michigan tree guide and confirmed it. Actually, after work yesterday I found yet another mulberry bush/tree! Lol
