I believe it to be a forgone conclusion that Hillary will be not only the first female president of the US, but also our next president. And while I am not that worried about what she may try to accomplish in office, the same cannot be said for that of the Donald. I do worry that the ludicrously generalist “education system” will allow her past transgressions and misdeeds to be forgotten.
Without a doubt, none of the candidates this election season truly have the best interest of the American citizenry in mind. It is also doubtless that with Hillary as president the current status quo will continue. Which may or may not be a bad thing.
Just random thought while taking my new route to work that takes me through some really nice farm hills southeast of Nashville.

There’s a third party with some pretty good credentials, Johnson/Weld will be on the ballot in all 50 states. Check their ticket out; if Hillary pisses you off only slightly less than Trump, you may find you like the Libertarian ticket.

As a Conservative, I barely even have to bite my tongue in saying that one term of Hillary is the best possible option right now. I’d actually like to see 4 more years of Obamacare so we can more definitely tell whether it’s failing or not (whereas an immediate unwinding would always leave people saying “we didn’t give it a chance!” My personal healthcare costs are on a hockey-stick trajectory and I'm not happy about it). Trump would, in the short term, decimate our economy and our political capital in the world, for whatever that’s worth. Four more years for the GOP (and third parties) to regroup wouldn't be a terrible thing.

Something to think about - If Trump wins, then almost certainly when , not if , the Donald does something that could be grounds for impeachment, both us and the liberals will have a common enemy. However, I’m not sure we’d want to do that if he ends up choosing someone like Palin to be his VP. Although for him pulling a Caligula might be a smart move.

Not quite. Real democracy should benefit nearly everyone. Brexit proves that even though the masses aren’t happy about the current order of things, the rich still win, even when the masses are willing to make their own lives worse just to attempt to inflict financial pain upon the wealthy.

They both performed admirably, if not above and beyond, during their terms and have great credentials for running this place. Johnson/Weld 2016 - let’s make America sane again

Gary Johnson wants to drastically decrease the size and spending of the federal government while giving the states the ability to determine their own Medicare and Medicaid programs which states have already proven they will fuck up, because State-level politics are petty and ridiculous. He also wants the FairTax, which would tax consumption, meaning families that spend most of their income are going to be taxed more than households that earn higher in proportion to their expenses. He’s a turd.

I’m from a similar sort of background, but strongly disagree. A lot of it may be due to a difference of opinion regarding the Republican party and its intent to serve the interests of its voters in any possible way. I believe that Ryan and others are far better seated to act as the brakes on anything wild and Trumpian than to muster any will against an excess of Hillarity
anywhere that mattered.
There would of course still be theater issues to trumpet conservative bona fides, but the GOP country club is disastrously out of touch.

I can’t say I’m particularly enthused about either candidate from a political standpoint. That said, Hillary impressed the shit out of me during the Benghazi hearing, not because I agree/disagree with her position, but because she weathered 11 hours of attacks without giving up a single chink in her armor.

Well, Weld has always been socially liberal despite being a Republican. It’s the only way he was successful in Mass. He just got to a point where his social liberal-ness was no longer tolerated in his party and he couldn’t be part of it anymore. I believe Johnson has always been the same way too.

Unfortunately if you believe the documents hacked from the DNC, the Democrat side of our election season wasn’t a Democracy at all. In docs stolen from the DNC, there were direct plans of action to ensure Hillary’s win...from forcing the establishment media not to report on Hillary’s damning past and flip floppy policies, to making sure debates were at absurd times (for low viewership) and other wacky crap you’d only expect from a third world country.

I just think that we collectively as a nation might need another 4 years of floundering (8 hasn’t been enough?) to bolster a better case — and field better candidates — for our side. I think that Hillary would be coming into office with many dings against her, from being a sleazy lifetime politician to the obvious Benghazi stuff. I’ve worked with people who knew her in Little Rock many years ago, and I have never heard anything nice said about her. She’s ruthless and terrifying, IMO. And not in a good way, not in the way that rallies people behind you out of respect, but out of fear.

I don’t like Hillary but, as I’ve said many times over the last few weeks, I cannot think of a single, rational reason why. Because of this I am starting to ask myself a very uncomfortable question: would I feel the same way about Hilldog if she were a man? Being completely honest with myself, I’m beginning to believe the answer is “no” and I’m really kind of ashamed of myself for that.
With the exception of a historical precedent being shattered, her potentially becoming our next POTUS really isn’t a drastic event. She is more of the same - an establishment politician who will not rock the boat one way or another, much to the chagrin of both those who support her as well as those who hate her. On the other hand, only a completely irrational person can look at Trump and see 1) an actual conservative, 2) a positive outcome for this country should he somehow be elected. We need to start being honest with each other about who this guy is and what his rhetoric represents.

Gary Johnson has ties to Maureen Otis and Jim Lacy, two pieces of shit that help defraud Democrat voters and support Minutemen and birther groups. Johnson also supported privatizing New Mexico prisons ( after receiving large campaign contributions from Wackenhut/Geo Group, the companies that run each prison Johnson established ) and schools and only came out in support of legalization of marijuana to get into the national spotlight.
Johnson’s 500 miles of highway in New Mexico? He had the project given to a Koch Industries subsidiary, the same Koch companies that are owned by the Koch Brothers, the slimy fuckers that are buying every election they can. Koch Industries was the only company to bid on the highway project, and they’re the ones that suggested it in the first place . Johnson paid for the project by taking out 20 year federal loans, meaning the $345,000,000 project that fattened Koch wallets is going to cost New Mexico another $145,000,000 in interest, which NM will be paying long after Johnson is out of office. Johnson is no different than every other Republican if you look at his history of governance - privatize everything and give the contracts to his friends. Not only is he a turd, but he leaves streaks on the bowl when you try to flush.

I’ll speak to what I know. Johnson’s highway, the stretching of NM 44 between San Ysidro and Bloomfield, was a direct and immediately felt
boon
on the area, a good
third of the state
. That highway was a two-lane stretch between Bloomfield and San Ysidro, where it then widened to four lanes between San Ysidro and Bernalillo (I-25). Speed limits varied from 35-55 MPH, and it was the only pipeline between the Four Corners and Albuquerque/Santa Fe (and the only two major pipelines through the state, I-40 and I-25). Travel between Bloomfield - my hometown - and Albuquerque was 5 to 6 hours on a good trip.
Once construction was complete, and it was completed pretty quickly, we saw some huge benefits. Gas prices dropped statewide (as it is produced in the Four corners area) as did the general cost of goods in my county as the trek from the hub to the final destination was made faster and less expensive. Speed limits were increased for the highway, as congestion - yes there was regular congestion on that lonely road - was drastically reduced. The outlier towns and communities along the highway saw an increase in travelers, leading to an increase in income. Speed increased to 70 MPH and travel time between Bloomfield and Bernalillo/Albuquerque was cut in half or better . The horribly constructed, rarely maintained NM 44 was finally made into a highway that was useful and worth driving.

So far as it benefits the local community, you have no issue with the state handing public funds to a company in such a manner that saw no competitive bidding or buyout, and the company in question was a major campaign financier of the person who made room in the budget for said project to occur in the first place? And the state built this road on federal debt which will cost almost half the total price of the project itself. That puts NM 44 at a cost of $4,000,000 per mile. The cost of a completely new 2-lane highway is closer to $2,000,000 per mile. Gary Johnson gave this project away at twice the typical cost to, again, the same people that financed his campaign. That means the Koch companies lined their pockets with New Mexico tax payer dollars at the rate of almost $1,000,000 profit per mile. Every single foot you travel on US 550 cost tax payers an extra $190 because Gary Johnson handles politics the same way as every other crooked politician does it.

I spoke to what I know. A road considered mostly untravelable, the only road between the capitol and the northern third of the state, was rebuilt and everyone rejoiced . If you had driven US44 before its rebuild (yeah, not just adding two lanes, a teardown and rebuild. Plenty of areas getting rerouted because they were originally built on poor ground and had fallen apart years prior) you’d understand. 35MPH through a hundred or so miles of dead land on something that only resembled asphalt in certain locations. During his terms, I saw my quality of education increase greatly, my county’s cost of living finally lower to stasis with income, a return to relevancy as our state moved from second-to-last (behind Alabama) in terms of income, education and quality of life, to 38th in the union. May not seem like much to you, but it was a stark change - the first time I saw positive change in my life. We had a 25% increase in population because of all the jobs being created, and the area is continuing to grow to this day. This is data from San Juan county and is indicative of growth seen across the state during (and shortly after) his term.
So let me put it succintly. Gary Johnson inherited a shithole - a complete shithole - and made it livable.

Hardened criminal? Best I know she hasn’t been convicted of anything regardless of years of witch hunts. She’s part of the corrupt political machine, no doubt - but like you said - the president can’t get anything done without the house and the senate so it’s not like you’re selling the country to her. I am absolutely not a fan of Hillary and certainly see that Bernie on the left and Trump on the right has risen specifically because of the same old same old career politicians lining their own pockets and appeasing their donors more than anyone else. It is absolutely a problem that needs to be solved, and I think with the next few election cycles both sides will get smarter about how they go about electing representatives that legitimately tackle these things. But electing Trump is going to be disastrous beyond repair - he says shit that some people want to hear, so it seems like an easy way out, but there is absolutely no way that 4 years of him being president will be good for this country.
As for Trump - yes, the president is a figurehead and he will ruin the country as far as diplomatic relationships go - let alone giving a voice for racists and bigots as he already has with the ridiculous hate he spouts. He’s a petulant child whose solution to everything is to threaten to sue or to yell. He’s a shitty businessman who’s run a bunch of crappy businesses to the ground and is just pandering to whatever base he thinks will get him elected. He consistently changes his mind and stance on literally everything. A country needs consistency and predictability more than anything else in a president...a crackhead would be more predictable than this guy. Again, still to this day I haven’t seen a single policy proposal that his supposed campaign is running on apart from banning Muslims and building a wall that he’ll force someone else to pay for.

Assuming this is true, truly ironic given that Johnson is running on a libertarian platform - whose whole mantra is typically all about meritocracy and disavowing of cronyism. Spectacular that libertarians flocking to this guy conveniently put aside his misgivings.

I am not disrespecting your position on Hillary, given the alternatives she seems like the only straight, “sane” candidate. But she is a crook. Its not just taking money from the Chinese or whoever, . She did in fact leave those men to die in Libya. And I can’t forgive that. I remember her being big into the anti-violent videogame push, even though the actual numerical facts show a steady decline in violence since the 1990s. Trump sucks, but don’t fool yourself into thinking Hillary cares about anyone other than Hillary.

Regardless of the points you mentioned, the bottom line I agree with - Hillary doesn’t care about anyone other than Hillary. Could you say differently about Trump? I would say absolutely not - he will say ANYTHING, no matter how illogical, or stupid, or illegal, or race baiting - just to get people to rally behind him. A leader like this is far more dangerous, I think. They’ll both need congress behind them to do most things - but there is a lot of damage that can be done just by their words both within the country and outside. Hillary is far, far more reliable at least on that front when it comes to keeping things sane and under control. With Trump there is literally no saying what will happen, and uncertainty like that is very very bad for the economy, let alone civil rights and safety of people - especially minorities and certain religious groups.

civil rights, like freedom of speech, right to due process, and the right to bear arms?

As long as the constituents are happy I guess that is all that matters.
