You know what pisses me off? When people have brake lights out, especially on commercial vehicles. It's not that hard, please actaully take care of your vehicle.

I get what you’re saying but the bulb could have blown on this trip.

By law you have to have a third rear brake light, which is also out, so I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that it didn’t happen recently. Plus, I don’t know if you can see or not, the right light housing is broken.

Some companies are disturbingly ruthless about minimizing fleet costs...

Because it’s almost impossible to tell when they burn out? Only a select few cars have a brake light warning on the dash that goes off upon brake light failure. It works by illuminating when you step on the brakes. This should be required on all cars.
Turn signals are easier to find out because they flash really fast when one of them doesn’t work.

For me this ranks 3rd, behind blown shocks and low tires.

In Texas, you’re also supposed to have a “safety inspection” once per year where they’re supposed to check things like brake lights. Safety inspection is in quotes cause I’m pretty sure the M3 passed with almost no tread on the tires last year.

Well, when the reason it doesn’t work is because it’s smashed...

This is true, I know some of the trucks I saw in the oil field were rolling DOT violations.

So common down here in Texas despite our “safety” inspections. I guess police can’t be bothered to pull someone over for what would be a “fix-it” ticket

Yeah, one light and maybe they just haven’t noticed (I only check mine a few times a year), but with two of the three gone, probably you should have noticed.

Back when I was in school (a long long time ago) I rode a bus that had a complete image of the rear of the bus above the driver’s head, complete with little LEDs for each brake and turn lamp. It even had the STOP sign represented as well I recall.
The other kids and I would always laugh at the bus driver and tell him when he left his signals on.
Why every car doesn’t have that is beyond me...

The problem is no one cares anymore.
Either the company owner, fleet manager, dock worker, or driver of the vehicle.
Not to mention all the people on the road that notice it (or not) and don’t pull up next to the guy to say anything.
People are too busy to give a shit these days. Send the company an e-mail with this picture, ask them to kindly take care of it. You have a 50/50 chance of getting a positive response.

Oddly, an ancient 1990 Accord LX that I rode in the other day is one of the cars that does tell you on the dash.

A couple months ago I caught up to a guy to let him know all three tail lights were out . It was crazy. He thanked me profusely and seemed genuinely concerned. Not every knows their lights are out, its a good idea to get up next to them and let them know. I know I don’t check my own tail lights before I get in the the car.

If it looks like a private work vehicle, I get annoyed at the owner/driver. But if it’s a bigger company, I sympathize with the driver, usually. The amount of harassing it takes to get anything fixed on my work car is exhausting enough, and I work at an auto parts store. I can’t imagine how long things get deferred by companies that don’t even have the parts right there, ready to go.
