Apparently it’s been 15 years since the original The Fast and the Furious hit theaters, and Fathom Events is showing it in some theaters around the country tonight. Say what you will about the movie, but to middle-school me it was a gateway drug to my current automotive obsession.
In honor, a bunch of local enthusiasts are going to be doing a mini-meet before re-living part of our childhood, watching Paul Walker swear he’s not a cop (“nah, man”), learning how Vin Diesel never narced on nobody, and which weight oil is best for human consumption (40 weight sounds nice).
I can’t wait.

I’m supposed to feel old, but I didn’t see the interest in the first Fast and Furious when it came out, so I only saw it a few years later... At first I thought (for quite a few years) that it was just another car related B-series movie (which is... not that far from the truth when thinking about it lol)
I would have never thought that this movie would be so popular lol.
Heck, why “xXx” didn’t work that much?? Is it ok to say I REALLY prefer xXx to the first F&F?? “Things I wouldn’t do for my country....”

I really like the first movie. The rest were a joke, especially 2 but especially the ones with Dwayne in them.
But the first one is a fairly authentic time capsule of street racer culture, where nobody’s car is showroom but everyone’s car says something about them.
TheBloody, Oppositelock lives on in our shitposts.

The thing that sticks out the most about this movie was walking out of the theater to see kids in their riced out rusted to shit civics trying their damnedest to burn out their clutches in the parking lot.

That first xXx movie was fantastic. I heard Deez is coming back for a real sequel, and we can just forget about the Ice Cube one.

I actually really like all the odd numbered ones. 5 is a great cheezy heist movie.

Ohhh, the Ice Cube sequel... fuck... That was really, really bad.. I can only hope for a real xXx with Xander again. Imagine something just as crazy as the first with FF8 type of budget :)
That would be AWESOME!

It’s even more fun if you think of it as “Dom Toretto’s Alpine Vacation”

The whole series is a bunch of silly movies, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that: I don't always watch movies to be moved emotionally or to be stimulated intellectually. Sometimes, you just want to see forty upshifts in a drag race with some explosions and/or crashes along with some danger to manifold. It took me a long time to even watch the first movie of the series - I only watched them all last year - but I can see why many people enjoy these flicks.

Been 15 years and I remember it like yesterday. This is when it all really happened to us - RICE!!!
Yup, I think we can all agree that this movie coined the phrase for us all. But at the time, it was too cool to ignore and we can all admit it was awesome.
Over the years they have all slowly dwindled to a shadow of what the original was but we still watch them with admiration. I still do. The new ones may suck but at least the series keeps trying.
Any way, I love the first one and am going tonight. This time though I will not be racing afterward. I will be getting my 38 year old but to bed.
