My wife has one, too. It’s a “zhp” shift knob, now on her X3 which is most certainly not an M. But it’s a little shorter and a little heavier than the stock one.

Nothing wrong with a non-M, and why is it always on the base engine, I don’t see a nice 335i or a 550i with an M badge. Also please stop buying fake M badges off of eBay.

I think they’re trying to be like how the M235i is a sorta-not-really-M car. At least if they had gotten the M badge from the M235i it’d be closer in height to the 428i badge.

yeah, the 2 series and 1 series have sort of M car versions. Not the 4 though and nothing with Xdrive (that isn’t a crossover)

I still need to put one more on the side, and another one on the front! Got to broadcast to all 428i owners that I one-upped them all. I have the M suspension and I’m just a chip away from being faster than the M4—I’ll do that one of these days.

Also, turn signals are for beta males. Driving defensively is for losers, and I didn’t buy an M package BMW to lose.

To me, this is very similar to debadging cars. It’s feeling uncomfortable with the engine/trim choices that were made, and trying to hide that.

I’m sure there are people that disagree with me on the debadging front, I just can’t help but always think “base model” whenever I see a debadged anything.
