Pros: it comes in purple.

Cons: no one knows it exists. Seriously. Heard of it once or twice before this, then nothing since.

I completely didn’t realize they started selling this here.

Neat.

If you look at their website, I think Buick did too.

I saw a little tiny Buick SUV on the road the other day, here in SF nobody buys Buicks so I have no idea what it was. It was however ugly as hell.

One of my local Buick dealers has this advertised in the newspaper, and it took up about a third of the ad.

The real con is the fact that it’s made in China, and thus almost 100% guaranteed to be an unreliable piece of junk, unlike the also made in China Volvo S60L, which will likely be just as good as Swedish built ones, because it’s a Volvo of course.

Yeah, because everything made in China is crap. Like the iPhone.

Wait, hold on, that was supposed to be sarcastic.

I’m actually surprised what a big deal this is. The GMC Buick dealer by me has huge banners out front that read “Coming Soon, Buick Envision.” They also have 5 Cascadas on the lot. I think we are underestimating what a huge deal this Chinese built Buick is in the market. The Volvo S60L may have been the first in the market but this vehicle will determine whether we start seeing more Chinese manufactured vehicles being imported directly into the States and Canada.

Wait in the US?

I do love Purple. And any purple car in my book deserves a chance.

$45k seems a bit high though. Who are its competitors? Lexus NX and Mercedes GLC?

I sat in an Encore. I was unimpressed. Definitely not worth it in my eyes. Then again, tiny expensive SUVs are not my thing, so I might be biased.

I despise SUVs, however I guess the cute factor or something hit me. I would never buy one. I want to say I’m biased because I’m a Ford guy but I do not like the escape either.

Wait, what? Is this a real thing? I’ve never heard of it. That would make this the first Chinese-built car sold in the US, that’s kind of a big deal, right?

It’s built in China, and it’s smaller than an Enclave.

I saw one of those today!!! Or one of these tiny GM suvs. It was next to a 2 door Tahoe. It looked like the Tahoe was an exploded version of a Tahoe, and then I realized it was just one of these tiny little things next to it messing with my scaling.

Probably was an Encore you saw if it was tiny. This is a bit bigger, probably bigger than an Escape? I don’t know.

Starting at $42,000. Cars are getting way too damn expensive.

I saw one with tan/brown interior looked nice for sub 30k. Then again it's basically 30k for a tarted up aveo.

Sold in North America, including the U.S., the Envision is between the Encore and Enclave in size. It uses the D2XX/D2UX platform, which is also used for (among other vehicles) the Opel Astra K and the second-gen Chevrolet Volt.

Woefully overpriced for a Chinese POS. It shouldn’t be priced more than $7000. The Envision costs lest to make than even the cheapest cars we get here. Especially at the prices they’re charging for it (well over 40k, more than the US-made Enclave and Korean Encore). Also, as they’re going to sell it in Europe eventually, hopefully they’ll produce them there as well.

GM should import the Encore from Spain instead of Korea. It would give them a better quality image.
