if somebody buys the company out, they’d presumably be getting the whole shebang, including kinja. So it may not be lights out anytime soon.

I think Opposite Lock just runs itself. The content is created by users, so as long as the server keeps running Kinja, i don’t think it’s going away.

It’s a bit weird. The think I read said they filed for Chapter 11, which is protection from creditors rather than a liquidation, which makes an auction seem less likely (though a sale is quite possible).

The thing is whether or not they want semi-private blogs being run on their platform.

The WSJ article said they already have a bid.

But everybody knows the good content starts on the blogs.

Well that’s not an auction. That’s just looking for a buyer. I’d expect them to find one, since Gawker Media is both profitable, and has a decent chance of at least getting that massive judgement reduced. But it seems like after the judge rejected their bid to take money out of escrow, they got in a huge money crush.

I was just thinking that we should get Road & Track to take us under their wing. They could even have “from the community” stories that collects the best stuff we come up with. They could also hire all the Jalopnik writers.

“The sale auction will begin with an opening bid of $100 million from the digital media company and publisher Ziff Davis LLC, according to a person familiar with the matter.”
That sounds like an auction to me.

Will the new budget keep maintaining the grey system alive?
