Ballaban thinks the 124 looks better than the ND and a lot of people on the comments agree. There are also some folks who think that it looks uglier than the ND. I am one of them. But then again, I also really really like the way my gen2 Mazdaspeed3 looks, goofy face and all. So I am probably just weird
But lets settle this once and for all with an ultra scientific polldaddy poll

Remember, vote on exterior looks only. Don’t vote on exhaust note or ECU flashability horsepoweres something something

They are like his and hers. The Fiat just looks more masculine.

miata is more aggressive looking, fiata had a more COME ON LETS PLAY look to it.

The Miata looks better but I’d buy the 124 Abarth because Mazda refuses to combine the LSD, sport suspension and Brembo brakes with the heated leather seats and auto dimming mirrors. You can do that on the 124 Abarth and for less money than a Miata Club with the Brembo/BBS package.

I like them both? I feel like I have a mild preference for the Miata but I think it’s all primacy effect: The Miata came first and I can’t help but seeing the Fiat as a changed version of the Miata.

Why not both?

Not using adblock right now. But I am in Private mode because I’m at work, so maybe it plays. I’ll try on my phone!
EDIT: Yes! Works on the phone. We’re at 50/50 right now!

I say Fiat, although I’m not huge on its headlights

The 124 reminds me of a GranTurismo in the back. That instantly bumps it up like 3 arbitrary design points for me.

I’d like the Fiat more if it didn’t have the whole two grills thing going on.

But the Miata’s rear reminds me of the F-type which is gorgeous

Base 124 The different bumper and black accents on the Abarth make the 124. It’s an F-Type that is pleased to see you walk away, because it knows you’ll be back soon. The painted insert within the tail light design feature is one of my favourite FCA oddities. I love them both, but since I have to choose, I lean towards the 124.
Fiat, without a doubt. I think the Mazda is hideous, front and back. I’d drive it, but I strongly prefer the Fiat.
I’d love the Fiat 124 Spider.
I’d take the Abarth but badge it as a Fiat, get rid of the matt black bonnet and boot and but a regular 124 front end on.
Fiat for me. I prefer European design to Japanese design 9/10 times. Also the squinty headlights and manic grin of the Miata just seem childish, whereas the Fiat has a much more refined, grown-up appearance to it. I also appreciate the more upright haunches on the Fiat.
Doesn't stop one from liking them both aesthetically equally.
I like them both, but the Miata wins out for me. The Fiata is too long for its wheelbase.
Wow the Fiat definitely wins there. Just saw the haunches after your post, definitely has a more aggressive stance. Yeah it’s crazy, a Miata Club with the Brembo/BBS package is $32,835. A 124 Abarth with the Safety & Comfort collection and Brembo brakes is $32,180. Both have the LSD, Brembos & sport suspension. With those options the Abarth also has heated leather seats, auto climate control, rain sensing wipers, auto-dim rear & side mirrors, universal garage door opener, backup camera, blind spot & cross path detection, rear parking sensors, and oh yeah the turbo motor. The BBS wheels you’re stuck getting with the Brembos on the Miata drive the cost way too high, and Mazda only offers that package on the Club which doesn’t give you access to any kind of leather seats or luxo options. Which is stupid because why not have luxury and sportiness. Maybe it has something to do with their agreement with Fiat. Maybe Fiat called dibs on that config because they will marketed as the “luxo-Italian” version. Back when the ND first came out, Dave Coleman from Mazda did a Q&A on the front page. I asked him why the luxo and sport options are now mutually exclusive when before they could be combined. His answer was that they think the people who want a weekend racer are the only people who want the sporty stuff while the people who want the luxo features want the smooth ride and won’t notice an LSD anyway. I dunno, I didn’t really like that answer. I would think one of the best times to be had in a Miata would be hitting some back roads on a a crisp, cool morning with the top down and heated seats set to on. I agree, but Mazda says you can only do that if you don’t want an LSD, sport suspension, or Brembos.
