I haven’t given blood in a few years, I need to find a drive near me one of these days. I quite liked the pseudo-’high’ of losing a lot of blood. Free snacks and juice was also nice.

I like how my school was willing to give us extra credit if we gave blood. I, the older student, raised my hand.
Me: I travel to and from Africa every 6 months for work. I can’t give blood for like 12 years. Can I still get extra credit?

I always liked giving blood for the little buzz it gave, it was best combined with a night of drinking.
Now they don’t want my filthy blood anymore (I was given blood after an accident).

Can’t do a double, the Red Cross doesn’t want my blood (ok, they do want it, but I’m A positive). What’s with the pint of ice cream, juice and nutter butters? All I usually get is some crappy oatmeal raisin cookies and a water.
I remember the days when they used to supply donuts.

I’ve been told I can’t give blood due to living in Europe too long while CJD was going on. Good on you.

While I’d like to, I’m not allowed to donate blood. It’s because lived in western Europe when mad cow disease was going through herds there. I think the concern is a bit silly given that it’s been 14 years since I moved here now, but hey, what can you do?

That’s weird. By that standard no European should be allowed to give blood.

I remember being in high school and turning 16 the day after the blood drive. 16 was the minimum age they’d allow to do it, and even with parental consent I wasn’t allowed.

I do believe they hold that standard here in Canada, not sure if the US is the same. They are missing out on quite a few people who would donate if they’d be allowed. The irony strikes me every time there is a commercial calling for donations on the TV or radio. “It’s in you to give”... unless you’re a Western European who moved here within the last 15 years or so.
