and 850 cc all aluminum Coventry climax featherweight, not unlike what powered early Lotuses. Leaning way over, it’s almost a straight/flat 4. Read up on this engine, it’s got a great racing pedigree. My friend describes the looks as a “shrunken corvair beaten by the ugly stick” and that works for me. Oppo needs more of this guy, I’ll bug him to sign up. He’s Known on the local scene for tracking some real oddball cars.

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t know, do you think he and his means of conveyance would be welcome around here?

The volvo is powered by a 95 3400 firebird v6 converted to carburetor and traditional ignition. When we both had chevettes years ago I put flames and mags on mine and drove it for years, he put a 4 barrel 4.3 from an astro van into his. He only drove it once.

“shrunken corvair beaten by the ugly stick”is actually accurate in every way. They went so far as to buy a Corvair to play with rear suspension designs, and then in an attack of Britishness decided swing axles were garbage for the rear and redesigned the rear suspension from how it would be on a Corvair... while developing a swing axle-like setup for the front. HURRR

I’ve been wanting an Imp for a while.

Also, the rear lights on the Imp appear to be trailer lights. Dafuq? Whatever the opposite of Frenching is, that would be the way to describe those taillights.

I knew you’d be all over this one. It runs, but it’s likely fate is getting stuffed with a light modern fwd drivetrain out back, it makes 35 horsepower stock, He’s been told there are more of these cars in the world with roll cages than with licence plates.

With the stock drivetrain, I’m pretty sure anybody looking at where the radiator is and how it and the waterpump are setup has got to cringe a little, but if it works, it works. There’s definitely nothing wrong with being able to fit a transverse engine setup back there, because in their genius they made a longitudinal drivetrain *and stuff* that is wider than it is long.

Except that hot rodding as a thing, involving particularly the “frenching” of headlights, was a very distinctly American thing. Would Americaning of headlights be a pop out and adding of chrome done by French people who hate hot rods? SO CONFUSE

Hmm...that’s a good point, but I think what you said is accurate. Frenching is something we do to make something look clean and fancy (like the French), Anericaning could be something they do to make something look ridiculous and hodgepodged (like me and my fellow Americans).
