This morning when I was packing my lunch, I grabbed a container full of white stuff. Thinking it was the delicious rice I had the other day, I eagerly put soy sauce in another container, and headed off to work. Fun fact, it wasn’t rice.

It was last nights dinner, mashed potatoes. So to recap, I have mashed potatoes and soy sauce. No cheese, no butter, and no sour cream. Just soy sauce. It doesn’t help that throughout the day I was really eager to eat the “rice” too.

So the real question is, do I eat it plain or try something adventurous?

Oh yeah, I’m not crazy for potatoes either.

Update: I went the adventurous route. It’s really salty. I had to alternate, every third bite I dipped it in. Would not really recommend unless you love soy sauce.

I’d suggest going to the nearest Chipotle or Mexican restaurant and grabbing cheese, sour cream, butter, chives, maybe even a tostada bowl if you’re feeling daring and going to town on those mashed potatoes.

Or you can go to the nearest Panda Express and get some rice.

If I were you I’d be going for the potatoes route.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I bet soy sauce is pretty good on mashed potatoes. As long as they’re not too buttery, anyway.

My comment was based, now that I think about it, that soy sauce ends up in damn near everything I make, to some extent. BBQ sauce, honey glaze for chicken, all types of soup stock, micheladas... pretty much everything except ice cream.

Soy sauce brand, not sure. My wife keeps saying it’s the ‘real stuff’ (as opposed to fake?). It has a weird after taste I don’t like. Then again, I’m one of those super tasters, everything tastes strong to me and I can tell if a recipe was changed. It always frustrates me when people say diet pop/soda tastes the same as regular. The difference, to me, is so distinct I can’t stand diet.

The potatoes are from a sack of potatoes. My wife makes everything from scratch as much as possible. She mashed them together herself. Potatoes were most likely bought at Aldi’s.

I can't imagine how bummed you must be. Mashed potatoes are awesome with butter or cheese. And Rice is awesome with soy sauce. But to get your hopes up like that and then be left with those two things sucks. At least you have Taco Bell to wash it down.
