Ok since I’m the bad guy here (it seems like I always am) I’m just nuking everything. That means deleting all replies and just starting over.
That said I’ve never been impressed with certain aspects of car culture, and since I’m not nearly as enthusiastic as the community-at-large here maybe that’s a sign I should move on to a new hobby and a new community more in line with my hobbies and beliefs anyway. pauljones (who’s had it in for me since day 1) seems to agree and has issued my first warning here (and even Kinja seems to want me gone since that’s over a mistake that’s Kinja’s fault) so yeah, maybe I should heed. Bye, I guess? Inb4 comments about not letting the door hit my ass?

Cool your jets. I don’t know who pissed in your corn flakes this morning, but you need to take a step back and relax. Go outside. Take in a little sunshine. Treat yourself to a nice meal.
I understand that you’re upset, and I’ll happily listen - but this is not a good approach to dealing with your frustration. Your behavior both in this post and your prior post is completely unwarranted.
Love,

Why would you cross the intersection if you can see that you cannot complete the crossing in one time? I drive in Paris, Tokyo and NYC regularly... I don’t get stuck in the box...

I like cars but I also agree with Alyssa Walker’s points. Our cities, environment, and public health would be better from not having cars as the primary source of transportation. If the day comes that cars are banned in my city, I’ll be sad. And then I’ll go out and enjoy riding my bicycle.

For example: Breeding, driving, owning firearms and mayhaps voting.

I don’t think I’ve every seen someone struggle so much with the concept of “if there is no where to go on the other side of the intersection just don’t drive into it".

We all have shitty days. Don’t let the fact that a few people disagree with you make you jump on
that
bandwagon.
I would much rather put up with a box blocker from time to time than have someone join the ban car movement. :)

Forced? Well the problem there is to remove the passenger with a gun or knife aimed at your head who is telling you to enter the intersection.
Otherwise, plan ahead.
Good luck banning cars from all but certain parts of the largest cities, aint gonna happen.

Um.
The feedback you got was mostly along the lines of “been there, done that, learned from it, here’s what I do now.” A little that was perhaps worded a little rough, but they had valid points.
What I’m saying is this... where did this post spring from? There seems to be so little to provoke it. Unless of course the mods have been cleaning up, I dunno. And I’m serious here, BTW. I really want to understand what you’re referring to. Specifically, the bit about acting like an asshole with your toys. I didn’t see anything in the last post or replies to serve as background to that part.
The intersection blocking is NOT a grey area. You should not be there. I do understand it can be a mistake, eg you were already stopped, traffic started moving a little on the other side so you crossed only to have it stop again before you could fully clear the intersection. However mistakes should be learned from. And while you can’t be SURE you’ll never be caught in the same situation ever again, you should be able to minimize your chances.
And BTW I say this as someone who has been there. Felt bad about it. Don’t want to do it again. I hate being an obstruction. However, the time will likely come that I get caught out again...
Of course, if you’re one of the dicks that just blatantly sits in the middle of the intersection, screw you. But somehow I don’t think that’s you.

Yeah, I read through his last post and saw nobody being a dick.
then most of the replies I get amount to calling me a fucktard. Fuck you.
Literally nobody said this^
Unless there was a post I’m missing. My guess is that OP has other frustrations in his life he either doesn’t want to talk about or isn’t facing.
Like others have said, this isn’t actually a problem worth getting so worked up over. Look at the big picture. Go outside, take a breath, realize that your life really means nothing in the grand scheme of the world, and just be a good person. It makes life much more enjoyable.

Fair enough. I thought if he’s gonna be an asshole and act like everyone is being mean to him when literally nobody was, then give him something to really complain about. In hindsight I see how that thinking is flawed.

The idea that pauljones has had it “in for (you) since day 1" is laughable.
I mean, I definitely believe that there are one or two (very rare) mods who have an active disdain for certain users (pretty sure I’m on some of their lists), but pauljones? Nah, bruh. He’s good people, through and through.
Maybe instead of blaming everyone and their dog for how YOU feel and how YOU react to things, take a little bit of ownership. That’s some “life in general” advice, not just Oppo, dude.

I don’t completely disagree with Alyssa or you but I don’t completely agree either. I don’t think that the amount of cars is the main problem. It’s the amount of time that people use them daily.
I have several colleagues that have +50 km distance to work. Those people will sit ~2 hours/day in their cars. Some of them could use public transportation but it would double or triple their commuting time. But no-one required them to move this far. They all made their choices on their free will as they thought that it would more fun to have a bigger house and less neighbors compare to the joys of having a really short distance to work.
And while many other people have been doing this over the years the government has been making many kind of enhancements to the road network to relieve the traffic problems. But this only makes more people to choose to live further away as the travel time gets shorter. And now that the government has made choice of supporting people living further and further away I cannot see any possible solution. Any drastic solution would start huge political uproar.
A congestion tax has been proposed but it wouldn’t affect the described problem as it would only make it more expensive to commute but it couldn’t offer any alternatives. But we don’t really have a proper congestion in Finland. The traffic slows down during rush hours but it’s really not very bad. In any case I wouldn’t like to be sitting there daily.
In media they are quite often discussing how tightly packed our capital area is and how could we find more living space for people. This is of course an illusion. There are a lot of unused land nearly everywhere. Our most tightly built areas are full “tall buildings” that are rarely more than five stories high. The situation is like this because there are certain interests in keeping the demand for new housing higher than what could be constructed because banks/cities/government are afraid of housing market to collapse.
My view on cars is a bit weird according to many of my friends. I like to own huge number of cars. But I don’t need any of them. I commute with bicycle (~5km per direction) and I’m really reluctant of driving with any of my cars if bicycle can handle the task. When I use my cars it’s usually when I have some event to attend outside bicycle distance or when I want to take my car to some place where I can do some repair work.
If I would be commuting 2 hours per day that would be like prison sentence in my own car. I could pick a comfier car but that would be like a prison cell with my own furniture. I once had a job where I needed to drive 35 km direction twice per day and I truly hated it.
I’ll end now. This rant was longer than I thought it would be.
