I’ve had a glorious few years growing with this company from just a few people to 100. Recently some management changes have quickly forced a startup attitude into a more buttoned-up / tightened down corporate attitude. I still have the same commitment and drive, but it has made me question the value tradeoff that I’ve made for a few years: namely - get paid less, have more fun.

The last time I started having less fun at a job, I bought a car. You know, as far as ways to spice up your life goes - a new car is pretty good. Not girlfriend doing that thing good, but pretty damn good.

Unfortunately, living in the Bay Area means a new car is not on the table - unless I want to give up things like shelter and food. Hey, I already shop at grocery outlet bargain market for food. Any lower and I’m in line with a guy named Ted who has a friend that only he can see.

So that means, at the moment, I can’t buy a new car. Boo. But that doesn’t mean I can’t dream, right? I mean, I suppose there is always the slim chance that I wiggle my way up from dead last (according to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) to 50th percentile pay for my position, right? That would be a pay increase of... *mumbles* carry the 1.... $105k - more than double what I make now. I honestly don’t know what I would do with that kind of money.

I think what strikes me most, is that if you open up craigslist or auto trader, you find that we live in really good times. Assuming you or I just happened to find that money, we could have enough speed to rip our own faces off.

It’s the Bay Area, so I could totally daily a $60k Ariel Atom, right?

Oh fine, if we must have a roof...

8k miles for $35k? Can you say V10 ten times fast?!

Always remember, if you belI’ve in the company, always take equity. That way you can buy the Fezza or whatever you fancy is down the road.

Yeah, I’ve got some of that. But it looks like any payout is years off - well beyond the end of vesting.

It’s doable. You just have to deal with a life-draining commute. V10 V10 V10 V10 V10 V10 V10 V10 V10 V10

I’ve already got a life draining commute! Plus you only need 1 more person for the carpool lane in a viper!

Over 10,000 miles in less than a year in a Viper. Totally doable with gas being cheap. Insurance wasn't even all that bad. The worst part is you just can't go some places because it's too low and didn't want to scrape.

It pisses me off how cheap 1st gen vipers are. I just graduated and am going for grad school, instead of getting a job and just buying one of those already. I know by the time I get settled they will be collectable and will be worth more than what I would pay for one. And that is sad.

For $60k, I’m sure you can find an F-Type. Look for ones with the sports exhaust.

They’re much easier to daily and deliver consistent ear-gasms :)
