Kinja'd!!!

Started getting likes and comments for something I posted a year ago. I then realized it is a slow news Sunday and the post got reshared on a couple of the main pages. Always weird when you encounter zombie posts.

Is that photo what I think it is? If so... :(

Always interesting when I see a comment pop up and can’t figure out for the life of me what post it’s about, then I click through and it’s something I wrote six months ago.

Its a group of B-29s forming up over Mt Fuji. I don’t think it’s an atomic mission. The post I was referencing was about how Le May warned the Japanese that the bombers were coming and to get out of the cities.

I’m really glad we didn’t have HD and 4k recording technology back then. Some things don’t need to be captured in stunning detail.

Your correct it is definitely not. The Enola Gay and Boxcar flow solo flights, this is a squadron. Also Enola Gay and Boxcar were lightened for the extended flight and had all their gun turrets removed, they are clearly visible in this picture. Mt Fuji is outside Tokyo in the east side of Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are on the West side of Japan, so not even near each other. Lastly this photo is rather famous, as it was in Life Magazine and in an advertisement for Boeing. This was taken on Dec 18, 1944 after a bombing run on Nagoya Japan.

Hey this week’s Economist had a blurb about DL picking up an off lease 777 for 7.7 million. Wouldn’t put it past Tech Ops to pull a Tavarish style “why buy a used Q400 when you could buy this 777" refurb but that seems awfully low for a newish airplane, even without engines. Is that all they’re worth these days or is that airframe only good for parts?

Part out. It is amazing what you can get as far as spare components.

Would have figured it would be worth more than that as a flying proposition even if it was due for heavy maintenance. Definitely worth it at that price for spares.
