I like this car but it if no WRX. There is a huge difference between a car with 18 miles and one with 177,000. It was nice not worrying. This car has 10x the features. A WRX would be $25k over the next 5 years. Imagine what $25k would do to the Allroad. I don’t think that’s where I would want to spend but just imagine. The thing has some issues what 13 y/o car wouldn’t?
There was one behind me today and I thought it looked amazing which makes me want to keep it and invest in it. Will they ever increase in value either?

I bet a 13 yo 4cyl automatic Toyota Camry wouldn’t have issues! (kidding....)

i’ve done more repairs on my ... hmmm... fiance-in-law’s Camry (brother-in-law’s fiance) than the Aud over the last 6 months

I go through this when I debate “restoring” Crusty or buying something else.
I could dump $3000 into the engine and $10,000 on the body and chassis. Or.. Maintain and save that cash for a first gen Lightning.
Eh. Maintain till death.

The only car I have seen the CEL on was my 2006 corolla. Though I think the light is broken on the Outback. I have seen it run on 3 cylinders without a CEL.

i’m not sure what crusty is but LIGHTNING. I’d personally go for the second gen

This may not be the appropriate moment to point out that my 13 year old Mazda 6 doesn’t really have any significant issues...
Seriously though, don’t give up on the Allroad just yet, it needs you!

there are only a few things that it needs but they are big.
The air ride could use all new bags and struts but at least they all still function
there is an oil leak that comes up to about $1000 to fix and I cant do it myself
I suspect something with the clutch, it seems to slip under certain hard acceleration
the A/C doesn;t work and I havn’t even bothered to look into it

While a WRX will cost more, it will retain it’s value better. Piece of mind is worth something too. I would keep the Allroad, and stash money monthly into a “newer car” fund for the next few years. In a couple years you may lust for something else, and you will have a sizeable lump of cash to go towards it.

I feel like some of this could be directly related to prior owner neglect

Oof! That last one sucks. The others I would expect. Heck.. They all suck but if it’s a keeper it’s worth it.

What was the reasoning behind selling the wrx and buying an allroad again?

I just can’t get into that gen F150 styling.

Shhh. You're not supposed to tell anyone that. Otherwise, people might realize that Japanese cars are just like other cars and things break.

the WRX was sold for a Minivan and went to my wife. MY wife’s Escape was sold and the Allroad was purchased with those funds for me. Basically the wife thought she should have the nicer newer safer car for carting around the offspring and I couldn’t really argue much with that. there weren’t funds for two nice new cars.

I think the struts are deteriorating and losing thier seal to the bags

Ha! I was thinking A/C but Suspension fits too. I’d guess that takes priority.

That makes sense. I knew your kids were part of the decision but I was confused as you can put just as many kids in an Allroad as in a WRX.
OPPOsaurus WRX

I think the kids have only been in the Allroad once so far. Also you can get a rear facing seat
I got $25k for the WRX (then loan so $8k on the end) and the Allroad was $3k

Clearly you have not heard the axiom, the most expensive car in the world, is a cheap German car.

Someone is going to try to commit you though. I know from experience, I am now an outcast in society and can only work in German only shops.
I kid, of course. But I do work in German only shops and people outside of them refuse to belive that all cars break. What most German car owners don't seem to understand though is if they maintained their vehicles, and not just fixed them, they wouldn't have to "fix" them all the time.

Does your Allroad have the jumpseats?
OPPOsaurus WRX
> Ferdinand Adlersflügel
06/10/2016 at 07:47 | 1 |
no, but if I were to keep this thing, that is something I would hunt down, especially with child #3 on the way. I’ve heard its completely swappable, seat belts and all.
Ferdinand Adlersflügel

06/12/2016 at 20:25 | 0 |
Yes, it’s very possible, and not too hard. Most, if not all, of the C5 A6 Avants had the jump seats so parts can be sourced.

I know it does stuff and things. I could pass specific questions onto my mother. She’d be able to answer nearly any question regarding the car.

Do I need to replace mine and how do you do it?
Ferdinand Adlersflügel
> OPPOsaurus WRX
06/15/2016 at 20:50 | 0 |
You don’t
need
to replace it but if you were going to, I would suggest replacing it with another clutch.
In all seriousness, it’s possible to do in a normal garage, but a lift makes it much easier. It’s very tight, but possible.
I’m sure you will be looking at various different clutches, and I don’t know what your plans for power are, but select one that’s comfortable enough for daily driving but robust enough for any potential upgrades, obviously. However, at your mileage, I wouldn’t play with power upgrades until you are absolutely certain everything else is up to snuff. But I still wouldn’t play with power upgrades.

Yea there is a long list of crap to do before I get into power. By the time I to that, if I still have it, I would probably be fine with replacing it again. I was thinking I might need a new friction plate or something along that line
