Yeah, the 2005 one with Jay Chou was my first taste of Initial D. Despite the weird audio issues, I enjoyed it overall. But I can understand how those who were already familiar with the story might have felt...

That looks really well shot. Conveying the slides and speed in a safe enough manner that you can film it seems to be a sticking point in some of these live action things. It ends up noticeably slowed down, or the footage noticeably sped up.
It’s also hard to film a slide that looks as if it could feasibly be the fastest and smoothest way through a corner and not pure showboating.
