Going to do field work for two weeks in the mountains, measuring groundwater contamination around an old copper mine. I’ll be driving something like this:
Wish me luck.

Just curious: Are you some kind of geologist?

Oh, cool. I’m currently finishing my BSc in Electrical Engineering(with an Automotive specialization). It seems there are a lot of smart people hanging out here.

Nice! Two subjects that are getting more and more relevant. How are job opportunities for you with an BSc?
Yep, the diverse backgrounds you find here always amazes me.

With an BSc I guess there are some job opportunities, but they get way better if I do the MSc my university designed to go with the BSc. This MSc is Automotive Technology, with a lot of internal choice options, so I can either focus on more mechanical stuff, making me kind of an automotive know it all, with a wide spectrum. But most likely I’ll choose this MSc and focus even more on EVs with Intelligent vehicles added in.
How about your job opportunities? Environmental Geology also becomes increasingly important, especially with all the fracking and what not, right?
Yeah the diversity amazes me too, I think it is kind of unique to have this many people, from diverse backgrounds, with diverse interests and one common interest getting along this well, especially on the internet.

Okay, similar to most other fields then. Makes sense to specialize on EV’s and Intelligence, as it seems that in focus for automakers right now.
I pretty much need an MSc to get relevant (and interesting) work, especially now that the oil industry is on its way down. Good thing is that my study program is the only one on EG in Norway, and we are 4 students in my year. Fracking isn’t that relevant in Norway, that it only happens in the oil industry offshore, but with a change to more land-based industry together with increased focus on the environment there should be a lot to do in the future. Also: People won’t stop using water!
