So I haven’t had too much time to dedicate to getting the windows to work. Its 80F outside right now and I wish I could be topless.
Found out that my problem isn’t the switches, its deeper, there is no power to them. The ground wires are fine, but nothing from the hot stuff. No power at either end of the fusees either.
Next is looking at the relays, but from my limited understanding I thought relays sit after a switch, not before. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Also the car is long in the tooth at 187k on the clock.. Not bad for an 82 I guess, but not entirely collector worthy, which means the resale value I had in my head needs to be adjusted. Interior wise: the seats are mint, but the dash is cracked, its got one of those carpet covers for that though, same color as the interior too.
The saga continues..

there is no power to the fuses? I’d trace that back to find the reason for that.

Trick question, the relay is before and after the fuses. I’d take a look at feed side of the relay from here, the relays almost never go bad, although at that age it’s possible the contacts are contaminated. You can take it apart pretty easily.

I wanna say that looks like a 380sl wiring diagram...
Much shame because circuits are my only automotive weakness... I just barely know what I am doing. (as in enough, not to go and fry thing by not disconnecting the battery first...etc.)
Give me a wrench and I can fix it... But anything thing beyond basic wire-taping, and fuse changing and Im out of my league.

That is is! It’s pretty easy, actually. When you find the relay on the left side of the passenger footwell, you’ll see its terminals clearly labeled 30 (constant power), 85 (ground), 86 (trigger), and 87 (output). To test power to the relay, you’ll look for two .75mm wires, one red with a blue stripe (constant power/30), and one black with a red stripe (86). There should be 12V on the red/blue at all times, and 12V on the black/red with the key on. The relay should then output 12V on the 2.5mm black wire, to fuses 3 and 4. The .75mm brown wire is the ground. Germans use brown for ground, almost without exception. A quick test would be to remove the relay and jump terminal 30 to 87, then check for power at fuses 3 and 4.

Ok, I fully understood your directions. Going to Try It this evening! Ive read that the relay is readily available. A standard 5 pin Ice cube.
Thanks man!

So got out there last night, took the glove box out, and even though I got all the screws I couldn’t for the life of me get the panel surrounding the fuse box out. Unless the whole chrome runner??
Anyways, I swapped a few of the relays around, only had access to 3 of the same type, cause one was behind the that damn trim piece (and one with a fuse on top, which didn’t get touched.)
No change, unless my switches are bad. I have a new one I’m going to try. I’ll also take pictures..my phone happened to be dead at the time.
