At least to me it’s nope. This particular example at a local Jag dealership just got it and while the design is still great, the basic trims are, for the price, basic. They are asking just over 47 grand for this one. But look at it. Especially the wheels:

Kinja'd!!!

They look like wheels that would be on something half the price. The interior is nice but the cheapness still shows through to me

Kinja'd!!!

I wouldn't say its as bad as the exterior with its lower plastic cladding, but its still missing something. I wouldnt pay 47. 34 maybe but not 47.

Honestly, I see something comparable to the new Honda interiors, which aren’t bad at all.

With the rock dropping depreciation that badge isn't worth it anymore.

Some day one could buy a Jaguar wagon that’s two years old for much less money and could buy four wheels for it.

I personally agree. But there’s many more out there who only care about the badge.

True. Thing is it sucks for Jaguar because BMW has all of those buyers.

Again I agree. Not a huge fan of most new cars.

But a Jaguar interior shouldn’t compare to a Honda interior. It should be miles ahead. (Spoiler alert, it’s not)

Honda does a pretty good job on their newest offerings so this is not an insult to Honda, it’s an insult to Jaguars.

I don’t know... I still like it, especially coming from this: [note: My Alti is very similar]

Kinja'd!!!

I’m still poor, I’d take anything, so a basic trim F-Pace would work for my shit taste in cars.

This isn’t the base model. The base is $7,000 cheaper and has different wheels.

Your right. This is Premium. But there's nothing premium about it.

Which is exactly why they’re going to lease tons of these things. People don’t care about having a nice car, they want to be seen in an expensive car. And this looks expensive to most people.

They’ll sell many, many of these and it will allow them to keep making things like manual F-Types and SVR versions, so I’m okay with this.

I didn’t like the X-Type either, but that car outsold every other Jag model combined for ever year it was on sale it is probably the reason why the company still exists.

As improved as the Honda interiors have been the last few years, they still use a f**king button (touch-sensitive on higher trims, IIRC) for volume control. On previous years, they would have two dial knobs above one another; the larger of the two one would think would be for volume, since that would be used most, but nope, it was for the navigation system and menus. Argh!

Eww... I had higher hopes for the F-Pace based on it’s concept photos. This looks like it would fit in at Lincoln.

The design looks Ford-y and looks like a ten/twenty year old explorer.

It’s doesn't look luxurious or feel modern.

Test drove the r-sport and the want is strong. The interior also looks a lot better with the led gauges and 10" screen.

I’m sure, like most new cars now, that that's the only one to get in the range. All the other trims are just volume getters to say that Jag is in the SUV/Crossover game.

And that gloss black trim looks way better than any of the wood grain shit.

They have the different trims to get down into the $40k range but everyone who get these is going to be playing in the $50k-$65k range... that's where I'm planning on being if we end up getting one. I like it a lot more than the x5 and rx350 f-sport we test drove. The thing handles a lot like a car and it hauls ass.

It essentially is the XE in crossover guise so I’m sure it handles. They have the exact interior. But your right I’m sure most of them will be 50 and above. That’s where I see it making sense performance and luxury wise. Anything under 50 I think is better money spent elsewhere.

I felt the exact same way. Was really looking forward to this coming out, and possibly even getting one. They got a dark blue one in at my dealership and it looked BASIC. In my opinion this one had worse wheels than the one you showed. Walk over to it, and price? $61k. It was fairly well equipped with the Prestige package or whatever, but no way would I pay that much for something that looked that plain. I’m holding out hope for the R-Sport looks-wise, or possibly even some better wheels on the regular model, but I just didn’t like it. And, the engine start-up sounds just like the LR4 (and probably all of the JLR S/C V6s) - you get a big starter noise, and then it just sort of coughs to life. It doesn’t help that the Range Rover Sport Supercharged uses the same starter noise, but then follows it up with actual engine sounds after it.

Also, interestingly, I saw the Maserati Levante that same time down the street (they trucked in a concept for a special preview at the dealer) - I thought it looked ho-hum in pictures, but actually rather liked it in person, even before seeing the Jag. The interior is okay, as is the rear, but the front end on it looks really, really good.

61 is crazy. I’ve seen some for hat price that looked no better than this. Im sure they will do an R sport or something to follow the industry trend of making sport lines based off of performance lines. But Im also sure its going to be high price wise. As far as the Levente is concerned, I dont care for it. Something tells me that the Levente and whatever other used to be niche or Boutique automaker wont have the best looking (trim or styling wise) SUV’s in the game as they try to capitalize on the stupid crossover/suv boom.

Oh, there definitely already is an R-Sport trim for it. It’s quite strange to see Jag shipping so many of the cars in such basic trim at launch- usually, carmakers only ship the really fancy ones to get your attention and show off the design, and then later start shipping more normal ones for more price-concious buyers. It really caught me off guard. From the configurator, it looks like decent wheels start at ~$46k on the Premium, or the really sweet 22" ones from about ~$55k on the Prestige or ~$59k on the R-Sport. Jag does have a reputation for really expensive wheel options - I want to say the XJ has a $$7k~$8k option, which seems more than a little excessive.

I think Jag did the thing of shipping more basic trims at launch to try and get people into show rooms. Again after volume. Its the same thing with the XE. A quick AutoTrader search shows most XE’s on sales are right under the 40k mark. Will it work? Who knows? I think Jag lost a lot of buyers that would consider this when the X Type estate went away. And I’ve never really heard anyone say they would like a Jaguar SUV or it would be cool for them to have one. You just dont associate them with a SUV. I could see 7-8k options for wheels on an XJ. Just hope there’s nothing that crazy for this thing.
