A buddy of mine literally gave me a 400k mile crown vic ex taxi cab. The thing is that surprisingly I love it. I love the fact that its well worn. I love the fact that it has space for 6 people. (Yes a folding middle bench seat is standard on this thing) I love the fact that it does not have carpeting, it has rubber. I love the thing to death. It runs really well honestly.
For referance here is the cost breakdown for now.
1 - Car $0
2 - Insurance for 6 months $418.xx
3 - Registration for 2 years ~$250.xx
4 - New clockspring ~ $58.xx
5 - new multifunction stalk ~ 38.xx
6 - New sparkplugs and coilpacks all 8 ~$70.00
Issues to be addressed.
1 - Airbag not working (see clockspring + new fuse) done.
2 - Horn not working - Fuse missing. done
3 - wipers not working - working on this, suspect bad ground.
4 - valve covers leaking. ~$40 and probably 2 days of swearing.
5 - drivers side passenger window not working. (bad ground) fixed.
6 - Needs new tires ~$400bux before winter sets.
7 - New windsheild wiper blades ~$20
8 - Paint (want to do a DYI spray on this vehicle) Yes im going to paint it black. Need to do some body work on it first though.
Upgrades planed.
El cheapo android based navi with backup camera ~$200
Parking sensors. This thing is a pain to park. Its the extended wheelbase model. ~$40
Possible upgrades at some point.
Mustang alloy wheels, although I may just repaint the steelies.
Pics. _ kinga wont allow uploading?

You may be due the second lifetime front suspension overhaul by now, then again, maybe not.

Extended wheelbase model Crown Vic? I wasn’t aware they had those in multiple wheelbase lengths.

Yes, the cab version of the crownvic is 6 inches longer than the P71(cop spec) or the civilian spec model. It basically has almost every p71 part except for 2.73 gears. Its freakiy watching the car do 80mph turning at 1800rpm or less. It does like 1400rpm at 65mph...... Its a weird vehicle to say the least.

I checked her, the front/rear suspension is tight as a drum. Its obvious it was taken care of. I live in a state where the average shock absorber only last 11months..... I live in NYC, the car has all city miles.

Weird, I had no clue. I never noticed the difference, now I’ll have to take a closer look at the taxi models. Thanks!

I live in NY, where our past time is being stuck inside subways inhaling the smell of raw sewage.

Thats liability. Trust me that is cheap for NY. Average beaters here cost somewhere around 800bux for liability, full coverage is closer to 1k. I pay 760 every 6 months for my mustang for full coverage. But that vehicle is my baby and is worth far more than the vic. Did I mention the vic is a 2011?

I can take you to chinatown, you can get all the MSG you want there. That will be 200$......

Not all taxi models are ordered as taxi models. Some are private cars converted, some are ex cop cars which are also short wheelbase. The best place to notice is that the front and rear doors are exactly the same length as far as I can tell. Wish kinja would let me attach pictures. This thing is hilarious.

Its a 2011... I think its a P70B.....

They used to put it in the VIN... I forget when they stopped, I think it was about 2008?

I found some photos online, and it is strangely hard to see the difference. One place where I notice it is the length of the window on the back door.

No idea, panthers are an oddity I used to look at and wonder how they were, kinda like a perverse desire to bang the fat chick. Turns out its kinda cool as well.

Hook up with crownvic.net, lots of good info around there.

Its definitly a weird vehicle. I will have it sorted out soon enough. I may use it as a winter beater, as well as the car my wife learns to drive on.
