So, what do you get when your friend gets you a job that will pay for next semester of college, you say yes right, Right ! There’s a catch
You see, we go to school in Virginia, and the job is in Washington State... Oh and your ride home is dependent on the restoration of a 1967 Mercury Cougar. OY VEY!
Well, the picture above isn’t the car, it’s the parts car for the car. This weekend we’re going to be ripping the rear end and disk brakes out of it for the actual car, but that didn’t stop us for getting this running and driving it around the yard.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It took a few tries, but my friend there got it to turn over. So the thing about the parts car is that it was sitting for 15 years before he bought it, and in order to move it around the yard, he installed a new starter and carb and it’s been sitting for a few more years since then until today... or Yesterday, depending when you read this.

The parts car is not worth saving, unfortunately, there’s rust on the rust... and that rust was home to rats. OH, by the way, the door is frozen shut so I had to hop in dukes style ! It’s more fun driving it than it was riding... It’s always better being in control of what might kill you.
It was a crazy fun ride, especially with one foot on a panel of thin rust and the other hanging in the air for dear life, hoping to hold to the frame rail. I have one of the best summers of my life in store for me. So Stay tuned oppo, we have a potential resto and road trip coming up this summer.
unless he sells and buys a CJ... that’s in the cards as well.

Call me Smuckers, cause I’m jelly. I’ve been trying to convince my younger brother to get a ‘67/’68.

I’ve always loved those old Cougars.
Wait, that didn’t sound right....

If he buys a CJ it’ll make the rust on that Cougar look like new sheet metal.

OH MAN
I’M GONNA PASS OUT
Love it.
Hey if you get to a point where you ditch the parts car let me know I may ask for a part or two, or even silly stuff like emblems. Let me know man, help out the fellow classic Mercury owner!

Best of luck! It shouldn't be more work than you think, but coming from someone who is doing the same thing, it does usually take longer. But I guess that's part of the fun :)

Will do ! I know he's planning on keeping it a roller as we swap parts between the two so you might be able to just get the whole thing if the price is right.

Well I’ll only be looking for small pieces, I have a Montego not a Cougar so the majority won’t match.
I’m actually planning on taking apart my door panel to see what the wind up window unit is, if it matches the Cougar/Mustang it’s going to be a hell of a lot easier to find.
