A few hours ago I heard a good friend of mine was found under his car today by his wife. The car had fallen off the scissor jack he was using and he was already gone when she found him. I’ve spent the evening notifying our group of friends. Please, use jack stands so someone you love doesn’t have to make these phone calls.

And yeah, Jack stands and wheel chocks are mandatory in my household.

I’m very sorry for your loss. A guy I knew in high school died the same way a year after we graduated. Horrible.

A jackstand saved me from lots of trouble last night. I wasn’t under the car, but it would have been a huge PITA to get it up off the ground if the stand hadn’t caught it. If the wheels are coming off, I always put a wheel under the car too for the same reason. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Sorry for your loss. I truly do not understand the concept of working under a car supported solely by a jack, especially one as weak as a scissor jack. I have never put myself under a car without at least having the tire under there with me to give me some space if the jack failed. Jack stands save lives, no question about it.

Use jack stands... and shake the car while you’re not underneath it before you get underneath it. Just to make sure.
