Funny thing (to me anyway). In my native Cumbrian slang, ‘peeve’ means alcohol so when my Polish friends said “chcesz pivo” I straight away said “yes”.

Neat how that works out. Polish and Czech are pretty closely related languages. I flew LOT Polish Airlines to Warsaw then Prague and could catch the gist of the cabin announcements.

Polish has quite a few words that sound very similar to English words.

Though the funniest for me is ‘twelve months’ translated into Estonian as it sounds like ‘cocks taste good’ in English.

Especially neat as the Cumbrian dialect descends from old Norse. Very strange.

Another Polish one is ‘rower’, Polish for bicycle, pronounced ‘rover’ of which Rover was a car company that started out making bicycles.
