Just moved into my new apartment today and was looking at the sheer amount of wifi signals here. Looking through the list and saw this one and had a good laugh as it was unexpected.

Cisco bought out Linksys and rebranded the consumer wireless routers as Cisco for a few years. Likely one of those. It didn’t go well and now Belkin owns Linksys and brought back the Linksys name.

Tssss, I’ve had a dedicated computer with pfsense for years! Most stable thing on earth. granted that it could have handled 400 devices at the same time or even more, and that it was SLIGHTLY overkill, but the sheer amount of setups and stats was awesome :)

How often do most people upgrade routers? I’m still using an old AirPort Express from like 2010. I don't need more than 802.11n for anything at home. I'll get a new one when it dies.

I was dying at “your moms dirty whore tit” simply because of the terrible grammar, but then I got to “Light the Bat signal” and I burst out laughing haha

Depends on what features it has and your internet speed. For the majority of people, I suppose it’s fine. If you live in a crowded building, I have read helps massively to get a router that can provide a signal at 5 Ghz as some folks have gotten higher internet speed since other folks are still on 2.4 Ghz signals. This really only helps if you have a fast connection like 100mbps+.

are you in the DogHouse?

You are right about 5 ghz. I forgot how bad 2.4 channel hopping can be in an apartment complex.

When I set up our (then new) router a few years ago I went with ‘hide yo kids, hide yo wifi’...completely unoriginal but I like it. It’s now an oldie but a goodie.
