My friends and I will be hosting an upcoming competition to see who can make the best cocktail. I can make a mean jack and coke, but thats about it. Does anyone have good cocktail recipies?

I’m partial to a tequila sunrise. 2 parts sunny d to 1 part 3 fingers tequila with a spoon full of grenadine that you put into the bottom after mixing.

Simple is best. Make an incredibly solid margarita, old-fashioned, or other recognizable cocktail before trying to do something crazy. Start here:

I like an old fashioned with a slice of Orange. I muddle up a couple sugar cubes with bitters, add some rye whiskey, a splash of club soda to taste, a few ice cubes, and a big slice or blood orange. My recipe is quite variable depending on how many I have had.

My best mixed drink inventions came from when I was drunk. At parties I would just mix drinks and leave them in the fridge for the next day. Apparently they were really good the day after. Turns out I was mixing hard candies and skittles into everything.......who knew?
I will share a recipe for a drink I call “The sheila”
-Dragonberry rum
-Citrus vodka
-Sparkling raspberry lemonade or mixed berry juice
-A dash of grenadine
Place the grenadine at the bottom of a martini glass. Then, gently mix 1 part each of the rum and vodka with 3 parts juice separately. Pour gently into glass, leaving the grenadine at the bottom. Place a lampshade on your head and extend the pinky when you drink it. Speak with an Australian accent.
Bam - The Sheila.

To win it, make a Burnt Fuselage. Absolutely hands down the best cocktail:
http://www.cocktailchronicles.com/2006/05/13/bur…
TLDR, 1 part Grand Mariner, 1 part dry vermouth, 1 part Cognac, stir with ice, serve neat with lemon peel. So good.

I prefer the bourbon based old fashioned. Even better is the maple bacon old fashioned.
Save bacon drippings from cooking a mild flavored bacon (don’t use peppered bacon) and pour it in a pitcher with bourbon. Chill the bourbon and strain it to remove congealed fat.
Pour the infused bourbon over ice
add a dash of bitters and some maple syrup to taste. Use the real stuff. Fake syrup is fine for pancakes, but not for this.

Make a real margarita!
Buy one of those fancy lime juice squishers. Squish some limes, then add tequila and triple sec and ice. So... so much better than the mixes.

I can only give you my drink.
Step one: Get a large piece of ice, like 2'x2'x2' is ideal.
Step two: Put it in glass.
Step three: add bourbon or rye whiskey.
Drink. Repeat steps 1-3 until you pass out.
Here’s a few that you may like, Rye Sazerac, Weller, Rowan Creek and Walking Stick. If you can find Eagle Rare that is also tasty. All of these are very cheap and very tasty.

I make one I call “Rosie Lady” if you want tasty yet super simple (I am sure this has a real cocktail name, I sort of mixed some stuff together and it tasted good so I named it). Lemonade, shot of Sweet and Sour mix, shot of vodka, and a splash of cranberry juice for the pale pink color. Serve over rocks. Great for warm months. Girls dig it.
I also make a New Old Fashioned, based on a recipe from a local bar. Bit of sugar and water (or club soda) on the bottom of the glass, mix it til dissolved. Or, instead of that, a bit of bar syrup. Add an ounce and a half of whiskey/rye/bourbon - I do it with Bullit Rye (Bullit ftw). Then, add half an ounce of good cognac. Add a few large cubes of ice, or one of those huge ice globes.Stir gently. Cut an orange peel and rub it on the rim of the glass, then toss it in the drink. Poke one Black Cherry on a stick and throw it in there, if you can find black cherries. DO NOT use a regular maraschino, just skip the cherry if you can’t find black. Very manly drink. You can also mix the sugar, water, whiskey and cognac in a shaker with some ice, and pour it over the ice globe if you have it, and do the orange stuff at that point.

The perfect Long Island Iced Tea:
1 oz. each vodka, gin, and rum. 1 oz. whiskey sour mix (can substitute lemon juice to taste, if necessary), ˝ oz. triple sec, dash of Coke. On ice, of course.

Sazerac:
Chill a whisky tumbler in the freezer
Take it out, and give it a quick wash with Absinthe
Add a single sugar cube, put a dash of Peychauds bitters on the cube
Crush the cube and add a few fingers of Rye whisky (I prefer Whistle Pig)
Take a slice of orange peel and, while holding a lit match over the drink, squeeze the skin so that the oil sprays from the peel, ignites on the match, and lands upon the top of the drink.
Garnish as you please, and serve.

Equal parts Southern Comfort, Stoli Orange, Triple Sec, Amaretto, Cointreau. The Happy Family - we used to mix these as shots, but could probably be served as a martini. Throw on an orange slice garnish? We weren’t that civilized when we were taking this as a shot.

Cocktails were invented during prohibition era. Bootlegged alcohol was so horrendous tasting that bartenders added juices and other things to mask the taste.
That being said, a cocktail should taste good, but it should look even better. Here, read this

Moscow Mule
1/2 oz lime juice
1-3/4 oz vodka
pour over ice, then add half a bottle of Goya ginger beer (about a 6-count, level should be just below the G in Goya).
Inhale just before you take a sip. If you don’t cough heartily, you probably need more ginger beer. Then guzzle that stuff until it’s gone, lather rinse repeat. Wake up the next morning regretting being born.

If you want a lot of people very drunk without them even knowing it, make the 15 minutes of fame
In a Martini glass, fill it to 1/3 height with grenadine, the next 1/3 with midori, and the final third with 151. Pour it in over a spoon, drink it all back in one go. The 151 usually burns like hell, but with this drink the midori and grenadine kill any burn. none at all. You can drink it down quickly, guaranteed drunk in 15 minutes.
