Right around 10:50 of this recent review of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline, you can watch Roman Mica of TFL become inconsolable about VTEC kicking in. I can relate, it does make a lot of Hondas a lot more driveable. It can take an otherwise boring car and make it howl for a second before the gear changes.
I’m not sure how impact it is in a Ridgeline, but Roman is really feeling it, hard.

This is hands down my favorite Youtube comment I have seen all day.

But VTEC doesn’t hit nearly as hard as people say it does. Especially with that V6 in the pilot. It just feels really linear.

Gets loud for a second, let’s not forget the second of slight loudness.

It could have been a weird brain remnant from my first PC. It was a “V-Tech” Intel 486 66mhz. Windows 3.1 never ran so poorly.

What is this fascination with VTEC? All it is a cam that alters timing and just makes some noise.

We are in an age where companies are slapping turbos on budget cars. Fuck a VTEC.
