Description says that driver sustained minor injuries.

To be honest the turning vehicle was like 85% in that other lane and the guy in the silver car tried to pass him anyways.
I’m not defending the dumbass pulling a left hand turn with no blinkers starting from the right lane, but there is some fault all around.
I’m fairly confident that the reason this has never happened to me is because I’m somewhat of a defensive driver and would have seen something was up before it got that far.
I still hope all that were involved came out safely.

All of the above. Clearly the guy making a sudden left turn with no blinker from the right without ever looking... yeah they suck. But I watched it a few times and I’m like,
that guy is halfway in the lane when the silver car comes up to him... when the other cars starts moving over I’d be letting off the throttle... braking... braking braking! WHY aren’t you braking BAM

I don’t know man. I’ve had plenty of people fade a little bit, but I’m never expecting someone to make a damn turn in the highway.

Yup, not defending the Explorer driver either, but the Cruze driver had a solid 3 or 4 seconds of the Explorer braking and changing lanes, at least from the camera’s perspective.

I was in a left lane waiting for a green light so I could turn left. when the light turns green the guy in the right lane turned left and did a u turn. Had I not been the second car in line I would have smashed the shit outta that guy

That Cruze flipping was quite impressive. 9.5.

Honestly, The Cruze is faultless in this. Here’s what goes through my head when a car in the right lane swerves with no directional and is on their brakes: roadkill.
My brain would never think, “U-turn from the right lane on a divided road.”
It’s easy to say they should have slowed down, but the Cruze was not the cause of their problems on this one. I can’t, in this situation, fault them for any of this. Anyone saying they should have been slowing, or any of that is reviewing this with the benefit of hindsight. We all would have been in an accident one way or another if we were driving the Cruze.

I’m a defensive driver too but people aren’t supposed to be doing u-turns on a highway, there was no broken line or anything that would allow such a thing.

And on the highway, like where is that even legal? But the cops will take you down for going 5 MPH over in a 50.

I probably would’ve honked if I was in the Cruze but I certainly would not have expected a random U-turn. People are just morons. Even yesterday, driving to work I was signaled to stop because they were backing some construction equipment into the road. I'm patiently waiting when a guy comes up behind me, honks, and then squeezes around (when the equipment is clearly in the middle of the road doing a 200-point turn). Sometimes I wonder how the human race has survived.

Anticipating a U-turn in the middle of the interstate is something no driver can do. If I were him, I would’ve moved to the left of the lane and prepared to swerve for the median/inside shoulder because I’d assume he was just going to cut into my lane. And watching the video, that’s exactly what the Cruze did.

That has to be one of the dumbest move I’ve seen a North American driver pull. That’s something I’d expect in Russia.
I need the horn off that big rig. Not sure why he kept blowing it as long as he did but it was probably a panic reaction.

Doesn’t matter if he started to go into the lane, though, the Cruze owned the lane, making the Explorer at fault. The Cruze seemed to be going a little faster than the flow of traffic, but at least in California, if someone is at least 51% at fault, that’s all that matters.
The Cruze should have been paying attention though and braked, that accident was avoidable in my opinion.
Constant vigilance.

I’m with ya on all points. Fault lies with the explorer. But the Cruze probably could have avoided it.

I don’t want to speak in absolutes since I wasn’t driving, but it looks like that was completely avoidable. They never even braked.
