Neither.

Explorer cause I hate Wranglers

Which one would I build in Lego, or in real life?

In real life, I’d take on the Jeep. Easier and cheaper to achieve screen accuracy.

Jeep. It's the least Ford of the two.

I disagree. I've seen Explorer builds done for 2k

That would be the hardest build of them all

Really? Why?

Correct reason.

Not for me. I don’t like barebones and such. I do get why it’s popular and the appeal... and for off roading it’s one of the best out there.

for real life i’d do the Jeep. The explorer would be way harder to get the custom fiberglass roof and window. The paint, unless a wrap would take some talent to blend right. With all that, i’d rather have the explorer, if for nothing more than that roof.

The simplistic bare bones is not what appeals to me it is the open top and do anything attitude.

Explorer, because that roof glass is cool (though possibly the hardest part of the build?)

The biggest hurdle for the explorer would for sure be the roof but some crazy guy on YouTube did it all for 2k amd it looked pretty dang good

Kinja'd!!! ttyymmnn > JR1
05/09/2016 at 21:58

Kinja'd!!!1

Then I’d go with the Explorer. I think the roll cage on the Jeep looks wonky. But it is a tough choice.

The Jeep. You can have more fun with it, and also build a more accurate replica. The movie Explorers require some significant dash and console modification, electrical work, a Plexiglass shield over the steering wheel, and that bubble roof to pull off. Plus, since they were supposed to be electrified and running on a track, the fact that you’re driving it around yourself with an ICE automatically limits the accuracy.

Just getting a beige Wrangler Sahara puts you most of the way there. The rest is adding the red stripe and decals, correct tires, brush guards, and winch.

fiberglass or plywood? I think the movies were only wood but i could be thinking of that RV trailer

That includes all interior and exterior mods, including paint?

Kinja'd!!! JR1 > facw

Without a doubt the hardest part of the build

I wouldn't say no

If you build Jeep 10 you don't need a roll cage

As much as I like the Explorer, I’d probably do the jeep

So true but the price of entry is significantly higher on the Jeep thus by the time the build was done the price might equal out. But you are correct about the ICE thing that is a great point

OR, you could do the Land Cruiser from the book. Much less modification - just a single touch screen/CD ROM drive in the dash and some paint/vinyl wrap.

True, but it’s probably easier to find a Wrangler, especially a higher end one like a Sahara, in decent shape 23 years later.

Most 1st generation Explorer XLTs are pretty used up by now.

In the JP world you can do as you wish

Kinja'd!!! Urambo Tauro > JR1

Kinja'd!!!0

I guess it comes down to how important screen accuracy is to you.

To be honest, the Explorer’s paint job and brush guard go a LONG way towards making it look convincing. But getting all the other details right is where it gets really tricky.

Kinja'd!!! JR1 > ranwhenparked

It's not! I've been looking

Kinja'd!!! JR1 > Urambo Tauro

I think the brush guard is impossible to find. It’s impossible to find like any brush guard that fits the first gen explorer. Although I did find one website that sells a brush guard but it isn't the JP one

60 series Land Cruiser because book version is best version.

Come to think of it, the only Sahara from that era in Sand Beige that I’ve seen recently was a really ratty/rusty one in Rehoboth Beach.

I’d definitely be tempted to cheat, and just use a bubble sunroof from an early ‘90s Buick Roadmaster wagon and call it good enough (though that might be too wide? Failing that I’d be looking to see if some car had read glass that was roughly the right shape. Seems easier than custom moulding a giant sheet of acrylic, especially since you don’t want it to distort. It’s the coolest part of the car, and needs to be done well.

Neither. I'd build the later ML320 because I hate them, and nothing would give me more pleasure than seeing it eaten by a dinosaur.

The Jeep. I’d rather just empty every pocket, than fix or repair daily. ;P

But seriously I love Jeeps and I miss mine, so a Jeep is a must. Plus it’d be a lot more capable than an Explorer.
