The best selling Jeep (truth be told, least bad selling) Jeep in Ireland for the first four months of this year is the Renegade, to my way of thinking the most unlikely model for anyone to buy as it’s hopelessly impractical. I guess it’s some kind of image thing. The only other models they sell are the ordinary and the Grand Cherokee which sell in the tens between them.
Better than the Merc ML though. That managed precisely one sale.
Also better than the Subaru BRZ. One sale too.
Also better than the Mini Paceman. Yes, one sale.
Also better than the Wrangler. No sales
Have a Renegade.

I love the Renegade, mostly because the combination of its too-small size and too-tough styling and all the design easter eggs (like the gas can X in each taillight) make it an incredibly charming vehicle. I see them often and I smile every time.

So it is.
Absolutely nobody bought one of those.

What if there is a Renegade trim for the Wrangler in Ireland and that specific trim outsells every other Jeep model?

Far from Impractical
. I own one.
Here’s mine loaded down with mulch and soil:
I think it’s probably far more practical than the Wrangler - and a better drive. It should be a sales hit in Europe for Jeep because it’s a tall hatchback with a 4x4 option. That’s what Europeans like, isn’t it?

Does Jeep offer their whole lineup in RHD? Plus, in many markets best economy = most practical.

Then I'd say that's dumb

It’s not a big seller in the U.K. either.
Jeep isn’t a big seller or even on the list of the majority of U.K. buyers.
It may have practical features but still nothing of interest.

The best selling car there doesn’t even break 1,000 units a month.

It is a sales hit for Jeep in Europe, but because Jeep is a tiny, tiny niche brand here the absolute numbers are still small and will probably remain small as the vehicles are so clearly designed for a different market.
In my market, Jeep, as a brand, has a market share of 0.17%. The Renegade has 0.14%, so the vast majority of Jeeps sold here are Renegades. Cherokee has 0.02%, Grand Cherokee 0.01%, the rest doesn’t register.

I don’t know what the whole lineup is but the range available here is:
Wrangler (POA and to order only)
Grand Cherokee
Cherokee
Renegade
There have been others in the past - they come, they go, unnoticed.

I must admit I was thinking of the Wrangler at first.
Absolutely nobody buys those, because complete lack of practicality. The Renegade you see occasionally.

I was in Italy last month and a fair few Renegades there - but they’re made in a Fiat factory which makes them honorary Fiats.
The favourite 4WD there is of course the Mk1 Panda.

The only time I’ve seen them here is parked on a Jeep dealership forecourt.
According to AutoExpress the biggest selling 4x4 is the Nissan Qashqai with 23,140 so far in 2016 (to date 6th May) make the Nissan the fifth biggest selling car in the U.K.
It’s also made in the U.K. (Sunderland) and often is sold as tax-free or tax-off an already well priced car making it a lot of car for your money.

The Cashcow (it’s normally 2wd) does well here but so far this year the Hyundai Tucson reigns supreme. It’s even surpassed the Golf, possibly because of the diesel business although the latter is still the best seller in its class.
Diesel affairs or not the Passat still outsells the Mondeo two to one.

The Tucson sells well here. It’s a good looking car.
So far for the U.K.
1, Ford Fiesta 44,240
2, Vauxhall Corsa 28,639
3, Ford Focus 26,218
4, VW Golf 25,073
5, Nissan Qashqai 23,140
6, VW Polo 19,225
7, Vauxhall Astra 18,896
8, Audi A3 16,196
9, Vauxhall Mokka 15,146 (a surprise for me)
10, Mercedes C-Class 14,391
The VW Passat has not been a big seller either. Mostly seen as a company car and the Passat is only sold as a diesel here. Even then Skoda are taking more and more of the share in the business sector.
