I’ve found that my clutch work is best when I’m wearing my Sperrys for some reason. The sole is the perfect thickness, they’re comfortable as fuck and I can wear them with pretty much anything.

I wear flip flops a lot over the summer, but never while barefoot. I feel like that would hurt for some reason.

Most varieties of classic pumas have always served me well. The sole thickness (thinness) translates directly into pedal feel.

My friend refused to wear anything but flip flops in the summer, so he was always driving standard barefoot. He also maintains that it's the best way to drive standard. I have t tried, so I dunno

I wear a pair of Chuck Taylors when driving my fun cars. In my beater I usually just wear whatever shoes I need wherever I’m going.

And you get the added bonus of your feet smelling like a racoon’s asshole after you're done wearing them all day!

Fun story, I went hiking with topsiders once. I had to empty them of rocks and dirt afterwards. :(

I wore them on the beach once. I still find sand in them even after a couple years....

ha - I almost always drive with my LL Bean boat shoes (which are almost exactly like those Sperrys). Thin sole, relatively slim toe - lets dance with the third pedal.

If I wear sandals (which, let’s face it.... Is a lot of the time) I’ll end up driving barefoot.

The problem for me is finding shoes that fit (wide 13), my feet also have a high arch. Finding shoes that fit and are comfortable is hard. I found some Merrels that fit perfect, and are very comfortable. They are my all around shoes. They are ugly, but comfortable, and a great all arounder. Like the Subaru Baja of shoes. I’m yet to find driving shoes that fit and are comfortable.

Sperrys work well, I also like my pair of Adidas since the bottoms are flat. But during the summer, I wear flip flops about 90% of the time and I don’t mind it.

Isn't it kinda dangerous though? I've never done it, but have heard not to.

I’ve heard that too. I guess the possibility of getting the flip flop caught under the pedal or your foot slipping off the pedal/shoe, is what the concern is but I’ve never come remotely close to having that happen.

I used a leather protectant spray (forgot what kind) to keep them from staining and it did wonders. I’ve worn then pretty solidly for 4 years and never have stained once.

That's true, with grippy pedals is guess it would be less possible to mess up.

I agree with the Sperry choice.
I bought some slightly-less-expensive knockoffs, and was surprised at how well they worked in both 2- and 3-pedal cars!
