The largest wildfire evacuation in Albertas history is underway, 60,000 people are under evacuation order.

Loads of workers and their families are staying at the work camps in the tar sands north of Fort Mac, and Highway 63 has been closed since the fire crossed it.
We’re no strangers to wildfires in Western Canada, but last years fire season was unprecedentedly long and expensive, and this years is off to an ominous and disastrous start. I don’t believe there have been any reported deaths so far, hopefully it stays that way.

Everywhere but Vancouver is covered in snow in the winter, and has just bizarre and unpredictable weather when its not snowing, Vancouver has rain 90% of the time but the highest percentage of people complaining about the cold when it’s not even freezing, and most of the west catches fire all summer. It usually misses cities and towns, not this year I guess.

Know lots of people out of there homes and what sucks worse is people at the south end of the city had to go south and people in the north had to go north. Some families separated at this point.

Are you guys still using the CL215s for these fires?

Yeah :/ Some headed for Edmonton and some for a lodge at the Shell camp I think. Even the evacuation points are being evacuated I think

I’m not sure what Alberta uses actually. I saw some copters on the news clips but I haven’t looked into the equipment yet. BC usually uses a mix of the CL215s, copters, little turboprops with belly tanks, and sometimes we bring out the big guns and let the Martin Mars loose

Not good. Here’s hoping all goes well from Adelaide, Australia. We have just had a bad fire season here.
