Me and some friends went for a drive in my Volvo and a friends Saab yesterday. Obligatory photos were taken:

Just got the Volvo out of winter storage, and didn’t get the opportunity to wash the dust off because of horrible weather friday and saturday. I also wondered why my brake lights didn’t work, but after some (quite unnecessary) troubleshooting it turned out both bulbs were broken. Good thing the reverse lights used the same bulbs.

Testing if the brake light switch was broken.

Problem solved.

Next up: See if there is a way to fix the reverse lights, those never worked in my ownership either. Change the ignition coil that may not give enough volts at all time, and replace a leaky water pump.

It’s a beauty! They never come that clean, myself and a coworker with a 122S search for them regularly.

The 142 looks really nice!

Your friend has a quite weird Saab. I think that 90 wasn’t sold very widely (Nordic countries and Netherlands). There’s a funny story about the birth of the design and I have told couple of times in here.

The short version is that the Finnish designers had noticed that the 900 front and 99 rear part could be combined to make a cheaper version than 99 models were. However the Swedish guys (who were making the decisions) thought that it looked ridiculous (they were probably right) and they had the bright idea to combine the more expensive parts instead.

They sold quite well but only in minor markets. The option list was extremely short and it didn’t have much more than 5-speed gearbox that brought some other things as well. I think that the total production number is a bit over 25,000 examples.

My toolbox still contains couple of tools that were left from my father’s 90.

Thanks!

He’s well aware of the rarity of the 90, this one is a 5-speed (about 5000 produced I think) and has less than 100k km on the odometer as well. Another argument for the 99 front and the 900 rear was to keep the car as easy to park as the 99, but with the added boot space of the 900 sedan.

That is common for both these cars, despite the 2-door appearance they are huge both inside and in the boot.

Man that colour is fantastic. The 140 want is strong today...

Perfect for the car - I hope to make it “pop” more after a wash, polish and wax in a couple of weeks.

God, that car is gorgeous. I had a 164, and it became a money pit. I sold it to a movie car company.
